Wanted: Z Attorney for Bose class action suit
#22
Let me ask you this:
Did you buy the Z for the performance or for the radio?
I for one bout the Z for the looks and performance. I have the Enthusiast with the base syste, and it actually isn't all that bad based on other "stock" systems that I have listened to.
I plan to replace the factory system with an aftermarket multimedia system. I work in the mobile electronics industry, and I enjoy the the best sound/features that are available in the aftermarket.
As to a lawsuit...get a grip. If the car didn't start, did not perform as advertised, or the dealer refused to service the car, maybe. If you don't like the Bose, either get the replacement amp, don't listen to it, or replace it.

Just think man, if you got this kinda support in this forum just think of what you are gonna get in the real world.
I think you'd have better luck suing Nissan for making you drive fast causing you to get a ticket.

Bose car audio systems have never been anything to brag about... I didn't expect this one would be any different, Before the amp repair it was completely unusable for radio and pretty bad for CD's. After the new amp it' about what I expected.

Now that's a crazy cat!
But I still think the Bose system should be corrected to our satisfaction. See post
https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....1&goto=newpost
for some technical info on another possibility.

What exactly does to your satisfaction mean? I've never been satisfied with ANY stereo system that the factory installs in ANY car from ANY maker whether it was a premium or not.
I think they are obligated to provide you with a sound system with the specs they advertised that is reasonable quality.
I'd be willing to bet the Product Managers at Nissan ain't too thrilled with Bose right now. I'm sure they are infinitely more peeved than anyone on this board.

better late than never....
OtownZ -- you gotta be a dealer lacky... why would you be harping so much for shutting up about the BOSE? Maybe a BOSE lacky or a Clarion Mook?
True, I expected Bose to be poor as opposed to aftermarket systems but, come on. You have never heard a decent factory system? You need to start looking around a bit. MINI HK system-awesome, VW Monsoon- very nice, Recent Lexus systems OMG! Even the crappy little AR system in my 94 Civic was very nice sounding. There have been alot of adequate if not excellent automotive factory systems created. (none compare to good home systems) The BOSE in my 92 ZX was very acceptable till till the amps started crapping out.
Our 350Z BOSE system was not the determining factor in my decision to buy. It certainly is a failure and that disappoints me. As an advertised premium system, yes, we were taken. to say that Nissan did not try put one over on us is a little off. They knew exactly what they were delivering. If they did not then they certainly know little about QC issues.
Perhaps they built all the Zs and shipped them to BOSE for stereo install? letting them ship directly to dealers-- Yeah right.
I love my Z, more than any of the previous Zs I have owned. but I will be replacing the sound system and I should not have to.
As a final word for all those who think we should shut up and take it, Man toss the technics rack system in your house and get a decent system. I say this in hopes that you can still recalibrate your ears to be able to tell the good sounds from the crappy ones. If you hear the real music playing then maybe it will lighten you up a notch.

The whole thing that pisses me off about my sucky Bose is the lack of response by Nissan to offer "something for my displeasure" with their product. I have called Nissan 4 times and get nothing. I work in customer serivce and feel that Nissan's C/S sucks. They could at least offer a free oil change, offer money towards a new system, or SOMETHING instead of "thanks for calling and hopefully we will improve so the new owners can enjoy their system". I would think that since I was one of the first to purchase the car that they would "thank" me for trusting Nissan to purchase their products. Instead, they do nothing because they already have my money.

So all you (manual transmission) Touring guys out there, if you had the chance for a refund of $2750 to trade down to a Performance model....would you??
I started this thread back in June 2002 and was slightly flamed for it. I admit it is heavily biased toward the Performance model, but notice back then everybody was defending the Touring package...obviously not everyones expectations were met.
https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....g&pagenumber=1
I think people here do have a point, that they trusted Nissan and Nissan let them down, but in the end you are the one who chose that package, not knowing exactly what you were going to get, so in a way you and everyone of us who pre-ordered this car without even seeing it agreed to whatever Nissan was going to give us. This is the only major thing so far that they've done wrong with this car so i think we should still give them credit for meeting our expectations in the other aspects of the car. For me personally, the positives of this car greatly outweigh the negatives...im sorry that those who got the touring have the biggest gripe, but i don't think sueing will solve the problem.
Another side note: The one thing that i really don't understand about the touring is why Nissan made the Manual more expensive than the Automatic...it just doesn't make sense

I don't think the test drive means much.
on this issue.
I test drove my car. But I wasn't paying much attention to the stereo, since I was getting a BOSE! So I concentrated on the feel of the car, power, engine, etc.
Its kind of like, did you test the A/C cooling level? No. It is an A/C. I expect it to be cold. Is a new car, $35K worth of it, the A/C should be cold. I didn't bring my tools with me either, to measure the brake pad thickness, or the wire gauge used within the door panels.
So, a 15 minute ride does not answer many of the questions.
Now, BOSE. Yes, this was one of the reasons I went with the touring. I did NOT want to go shopping for aftermarket combo and have my car taken apart and put together again to install a stereo system. I figure, if I get the BOSE I "know" I am getting a better than average system and I will just stick with it.
Face it : Nissan is using the BOSE name, knowing is supposed to mean something. When you go there to see the car, the salesperson will point out "this one has a radio, but this one comes with the BOSE". Nuf said, right?
So the name BOSE, like Nike, or Coke, or Pioneer, has a certain standard or expectation attached to it. So the damage here is to BOSE. Because the next time I go to buy a car, having a BOSE in it will mean nothing. And when somebody asks me about my Z, or some other car with a BOSE, I will say "so what". So it is BOSE who is damaging their own name. It would be in BOSE's interest to salvage their reputation, because Nissan is in the car business, and they did deliver the car.
On the sueing issue, I think a "media" attack might have better results. Again, it is BOSE's reputation that is at stake. So, publicity is the biggest damage. If the word gets around, they will "feel" it where it hurts...
All that said, to me, not an audio freak, the system is ok. With the revised amp I can manage to listen to the radio, and CDs sound ok. I expected better from BOSE. I still do NOT want to redo my audio on a new car I just paid good money for, but can see me doing it in a couple of years...

I'll probably get flamed for this, but what the hell...
From the onset of my interest in the 350 I thought the packages made no sense whatsoever. The price differences certainly did not warrant what you got. What they were asking for the Track and Touring over the Enthusiast for a (typically) crappy Bose stereo, some (overpriced by the tag on the car) Brembo's and Ray's (wheels I don't like anyway; not my taste) and VDC (which is also totally worthless to me) I was amazed anyone even bought them much less how popular they turned out to be on this forum.
The only thing at all that I liked about the Touring was the leather, but eh, save the $6k and buy some better seats a better stereo a better nav and some nicer wheels.
I still think they really F'd up with the packages, it should've just been one model and "options". I can't say I feel sorry for the Bose owners, I mean I think you should either a) be reimbursed for it or b) have it corrected, but (to my ears) I have yet to hear a factory stereo (Bose or not; not that Bose is anything great) that even remotely compared to quality aftermarket equipment.
I guess I spent too many years staring at $2000 Genelic studio monitors mixing down audio and spoiled my ears.
Before I purchased my Z, I mulled over all of this. Of course the Track was the one that interested me. Good marketing name that was: Track. Sounds manly and business like (while Touring sounds soft and squidgy). But as I investigated and found out that for my extra $6k I got Brembo's and Rays and VDC. Decent brakes, wheels I don't care for (which incidentily resemble the stock pattern a bit too much) and VDC which I could really give a damn about made me think out loud "WTF is Nissan doing".
Marketing. Sheer and simple. Those that took the pluge for the Touring marketing machine are displeased. I can't say I'd have expected anything out of the Bose system other than for it to produce audible sound, but to each his own I suppose.
I do feel that the owners of said "behind-the-seat-fartbox" have a right to have their systems' corrected. Maybe they were or weren't paying for a certain level of audio quality (all of our ears are different; I'm sure many of us can 'hear' the quality of audio that others can't) but that's all personal and very, very speculative.
What they WERE paying for however, is an audio system that WORKS. From what I've read in a number of threads, it indeed does not WORK as a conventinally designed audio system should.
Nissan should fix or replace it IMO, but a refund is really reaching.

Geez, I can't believe this thread. Does "buyer beware" ring a bell?
You're just STUPID if you commit a non-refundable desposit sight-unseen to a $30,000+ car.
It sounds like Nissan is fixing the amp problem, so now the stereo just sucks like ANY OTHER Bose system.
Did Nissan sell you something you didn't get? No. Did they promise anything other than a stereo with a Bose sticker on it? No.
Maybe next time you'll do some research before you make a purcahse as big as a car.
And please, learn how to use real English sentance structure.
Thank you,
Jason

Jason, that would be "sentence", since you decide to go into the grammar/spell boundaries...
And, since according to some other thread 5 of the top 10 cars (by cost I think) have a Bose as an option, I don't think I would be the first gullible soul to think BOSE stands for a good/better than average stereo. From a non-audio-freak point of view, most OEM stereos do the basic job, BOSE and some other "premium" setups are supposed/expected to be better than average, or you can go aftermarket and install a concert hall in your car.
Maybe a poll....

Jason,
The deposit was refundable so I dont know about the "stupid" comment............ The "stupid" part was thinking Bose meant quality............and yes learn how to spell............besides
there is a TSB issued......... so there is a prob..............Does the fix work?.Na
u can voice your opinion......but the "do your research before u purcahse something as big as a car" comment..........are u for real bud?

I gotta say that I am really suprised how many people are lack-luster and lame with regards to a poor item in an otherwise great car.
To discuss the BOSE system, continuously, may get it the attention it deserves.
The issue is not a broken amp. The system never worked correctly. This is evidenced by them offering to replace any amp that presented with the problem. Also, you can be sure that steps were taken on future units to castrate the amp and eliminate base pounding. 240 watts- my ***! (excuse my latin)
Here is a system that those in the know agree is bad from the outset. Enough clatter about "buyer beware" (more appropriate when buying a stereo from a pawn shop). The car is great, what is wrong with expecting a decent system when there are plenty of premium systems that sound great and even plenty of stock systems that are very adequate. The final word is BOSE ain't one of them.
Did you have a Z32 w/BOSE? I did and it was a damn sight better than this one.
So why should I expect crap when BOSE did fine before? (Home systems excluded- of course)
#40
I don't know if there is a way to test this because I am not a very technical audio person. Is there a way to actually test and see if this crappy Bose system is pushing 240 watts of power like it was advertised by Nissan? Are there sound meters out there, or stereo shops that test sound? I have heard other systems that claim to have smaller amps that sound much louder, and doubt our Bose systems will read "240 Watts". If all of us dissatisfied Bose owners could prove that this system is not producing the watts/amps as advertised, maybe that would be recourse for Nissan to replace our systems??? Just an idea - I am desperate to make Nissan step up and assit their pissed off customers!
