Default Definitive info on Sat radio?

I know there has been a lot of discussion about this, but I can't seem to find any authoritative answers. I have a US-spec '05 GT Roadster with the Bose HU (tape, CD and Radio buttons are present) and I'm wondering what considerations I'll need to be aware of to get an XM signal. Is the car pre-wired for Sat radio (my suspicion is that no, none of the Roadsters are pre-wired as such)? Is a Sat tuner built into the Bose HU just waiting for an antenna to be connected, or is the Sat tuner a "stand-alone" addition to the HU?

I really don't want to start tearing apart my dash until I have a good idea of the hardware required to get Sat radio, so any info will be gratefully received.

Thanks much.

I have the same car but mine is ultra yellow with the same HU. I was told by Nissan and HiFi Buys that the unit I have is not compatable with sat radio. I would either have to go to Nissan and have them convert the radio which would be around 600 dollars to do or I could buy a stand alone sat radio unit and mount it somewhere. I didn't like either of those ideas, so I bought a Kenwood DDX-7015. I can get sat radio and a ipod interface or navigation with the Kenwood unit. The HU cost me around 900 dollars new on ebay, but it will be much better than the stock Blose system. Granted I am going to replace the speakers, but in the end I will be much happier with the system and what it can do.

Doesn't every Z after model year 2003 have the satellite input button? (Basically an auxiliary input in the back of the HU) You still need the electronics though (satellite antenna, XM or Sirius receiver ect)

That’s my 2 cents

I am also in Rockville staying right near Strathmore

Too expensive to have Nissan convert it to xm! My radio would not work directly with xm radio either. I went to Best Buy and bought a new alpine head unit, ipod adapter, and xm adaptor all for about $400. Installed it myself to keep the costs down. It was very easy to do after I found instructions online on how to remove factory radio. The alpine and xm adaptor work great together! You can change and view stations directly from radio, rather than use the Roady or separate device.

If you dont already have the Ipod interface I HIGHLY recommend it!! No need for carrying around a large cd collection in the car anymore. When I was installing the Ipod, I drilled a small hole inside the bottom of the little compartment where the navi would go if you had that option. Then I ran the cord behind the center dash, straight up from the back of the head unit. I have the Ipod mounted inside the navi compartment, so it is completely hidden away. Its very easy to access and unplug if I want to listen to it outside of car.

Just incase anyone is interested in installing their own stereo, this link will help you out! I followed it step by step and it was a breeze. There are also instructions for auto tran. and non navi. at this site.

Cool! Thanks for the input.

I'm looking through Crutchfield.com right now and this Alpine unit popped up. But Crutchfield is telling me that I'll lose the NAVI if I pull the factory HU. *scratches head* That can't be right, can it?
