Default Bose Audio Pilot Testing Update

Guys,
I spent this morning investigating the Bose Audio Pilot system and trying to improve the sound quality. I HAVE had my amplifier replaced as per the TSB. This did fix the boomy bass problem with the radio but seemed to drastically lower the subwoofer output so as it cannot really even be heard or felt (as opposed to before where the sub really kicked ***)

I set out to see if I could disable the audio pilot micrphone (located under the steering wheel) or possible change something in one of the amplifiers. This was in an effort to get my bass response back.

Okay the short story is this:
I tried unplugging the audio pilot microphone and it had no effect on the sound system on either CD or Radio even after playing for like 5 minutes. Now this is very different then what others had reported when they unplugged the mic (system went crazy) - so I am not sure if this is a result of the new amplifier or I had a bad one?

Anyway - since unplugging the mic had no effect I did not have high hopes for anything else. I measured the resistance of the mic (about 8k ohms) and stuck in a resistor in its place of about the same value. No effect.

Next I tried different resistors ranging from 3k to 10k ohms all had no effect.

I moved onto the subwoofer amp to see if there was any kind of gain adjustment to get my bass back. No dice -- nothing - nada.

Next I removed the main amp that was replaced in the TSB. I took it apart also and did not see anything that I could change. Also I noticed that the entire board was new and was dated in October (my car was built in June-July).

So I guess the short story is that I think we may be out of luck. Maybe the modifications to the audio mic would work better on someone's car were unplgging the mic actually did something. I think I will just have to go aftermarket amps to make the system sound good.

Below I have attached various pics of my journey through the car's stereo system. Enjoy.

Jason

Default SubWooffer

Interesting Design -- Looks good for potential upgrades. Needs more Dyno Matting in the Sub area.

so after taking your car apart like that, how many leftover pieces did you have after putting it back together?

Default LOL

Yeah really. You know everything was pretty easy except for the rear amp in the hatch. You had to rip half the freakin car apart to get that one out. Hopefully I saved someone else the trouble.

Is replacing the amps going to fix the problem or is the AudioPilot processing done in the head unit?

Default Audio Pilot Seems to be from the main amp

I would think since they replaced the main amp as per the TSB that the audio pilot is mainly linked through the amp and not the head unit.

Either way aftermarket amps will give much better flexibility. With new amps you can adjust the gain, crossover points, and bass boost. Overall system control should be quite good.

What I can't figure out is why Nissan chose to put the main amp so far back in the car. I mean the area behind the subwoofer is absolutely huge. They could have mounted half the systems in the car in this area.

Does it seem that the Audiopilot thing still works? i.e. does it still boost volume as the ambient noise in the cabin increases?
