Default Why are satellite "ready" receivers specific to provider?

Bought the Pioneer FH-P5000 8 months ago when I had no intention of getting sat. radio. Paid no attention to the unit being XM-ready.

Now I want sat. and having listened to XM and Sirius online, it seems that Sirius has a much better selection of rap/rock stations, which is what I listen to most of course. Anyone know if XM Ready receivers will truly work only with XM, or is that just a marketing gimmick??

They will only work with XM. Alpines now have XM or Sirius but I'd rather drink drano then buy a new Alpine HU. Eclipse has finally got Sirius Ready and that has made my day.

LS350Z, why would you say you would rather drink Drano than buy a new Alpine HU?

I'd rather drink Drano than listen to Sirius or XM.

Default 2004+ satellite ready headunits can get either provider

Talked to a guy at Best Buy - I know, not normally a reputable source - but later went online and confirmed it true. The new Sirius tuners are designed to work with 2004 and up satellite ready receivers, regardless if XM or Sirius ready. As long as you have an IP Bus connection, you can swing either way.

If anyone's interested, do a search for the Sirius Pioneer SIR PNR1 tuner and you'll find the details. Even mentions my specific receiver model in the catalog...
