OEM sound on the Z is just OK. Even the Touring version that has Bose system. If you are not into music then it will be fine.

OEM sucks bottom line. Save the money get the base system. Toss the OEM head unit and speakers. You could have a Pioneer setup that would out perform the Blose for under $500.

I really enjoy music & the stock system sucks wind.....bad.

I know nothing about car mechanics so I went to a good car stero shop. Cost me $1600 installed to replace the system. See link below for what I had installed.

If you don't enjoy music you'll love the Bose.

I'll let my pictures do the talking.

The bass is weak, the mid-range is muddled, the high end shrill at times and tinny at others. There's a microphone under the steering wheel which messes with the tone of the system depending on what sounds are heard - not just adjusting the volume up or down - the tone.

Exhaust note of the Z plays out 100000000000 times better music
than its stock stereo system does.

If you do buy the Z, lose the stock system QUICK.

It also looks nasty and is a major contributor of the Z's critical
cheap-looking interior comments.
I now have the Pioneer N-2, and no one dares to call my interior cheap

My subwoofer doesn't work anymore and I've only had the car a little over a week. Dealer haven't figured out what the problem was. They had my car for a day thinking it was the wiring but was wrong so they ordered a new amp, see how that goes

I just recently replaced the door speakers in mine. It was a piece of cake to do (I found directions for taking everything apart on this forum) and just replaced them with some ok speakers and that alone made a huge difference in sound quality. If you aren't so into stereos that you feel compelled to spend hundreds of dollars then you could do this easy swap and get a huge bang for the buck.

So you kept the bose wires and amp and jsut installed new front speakers? What ohms did you get for the front speakers? I am thinking of changing just the speakers to OK speakers. I'm not a huge audiophile guy.

Default Photos! Awesome!

Paul! Dude! Those photos made me weep. Now I officially hate my stock system.

In fairness, though, I've disliked it since day one. Now I hate it.

What's step one for upgrading? I mean, after pulling out my wallet? I don't need an ultra-high-end competition sound system...I just need something that plays listenable music with the top down!!!

2004 Touring Roadster...Bose w/Nav system...thanks for ANY hints-n-tips!

From divorce to Z-car. The ultimate upgrade!

Sorry about the divorce. The Z will ease your pain, though. I promise.

Thanks man! I hope it does. I was thinking an '05 or '06 Roadster....triple black touring model would do nicely.

What do you think?

I too am disappointed with the mid range response of the Bose system

Since I purchased the roadster, anyone have some experience upgrading their audio system? I wouldn't mind keeping the rest of the system if I could just get better midrange response.

Having the woofer behind the seat does wonders for the low end though.

The Blaupunkt TSc660 6.75" component set sounds much better than the BOSE system. They are only $39.99 + shipping and they are by far much easier on the ears than the stock system. I sometimes wonder how BOSE makes so much money .

I've installed 1 set into a 350z coupe, and 2 more sets in an Accord and a Nissan 240. They were brought to me by the customer, and all have been amplified with whatever the customer brings me. So far, I really like them, especially for only ~$45 shipped. I'm waiting on 2 sets for my own personal work cars

You may not want the, but figured it was just an option. Its better than listening to BOSE thats for sure
