Default Trip to Japan - Look what I got, what I can get

I'm here for another 3 days, and I'm going to bring back one other unit. The pic is mine I can't wait to install it. You have to love Japanese Domestic Market only products! Can't find this stuff in the states

So I'm probably going to eBay the other unit I buy (unless I get a guaranteed buyer on this board) . . . What strikes everyone's fancy? These are the latest models - the ones on melting-pot.com are last years models. The prices are aproximate, since I have to negotiate the deal and then calculate my duty fees, etc.

http://www.alpine.co.jp/alpine/produ...da-w920jb.html about $700

http://www.alpine.co.jp/alpine/produ...da-w920jb.html My Baby! - about $900

http://www.addzest.com/ADDZEST_DYNAM...el_no=DMZ655MP about $700

http://www.ecat.sony.co.jp/me/caraud...92&KM=WX-S5510 about $700

There are other products, but these had the best build quality. The Pioneer's are way sweet, but the Addzest (Clarion) has the ability to match the interior nicely.

Since not everyone reads Japanese, bablefish is your friend.

I think that Pioneer is better than the Apline. Look for the INE-w099 by Alpine--that is a kick *** head unit. Or look for Eclipse, they just released their DD units (AVN)

I looking for the Eclipse E3308mdc 3 md changer, can you get one?

Eclipse is near impossible to get here. You have to special order the head units (that's what I originally wanted). All they have are the nav systems, which are beyond sweet, but only work in Japan (no GPS data available for US). I'll check though - I saw some changers there.

The Pioneer is about $900. http://www.pioneer.co.jp/carrozzeria...0md/index.html
(sorry, I put the wrong link next to mine)

Japan's stuff is not really cheaper than US. Like cameras and stuff - they have some small nice things, but so does the US, and I just don't see the point in paying the premium. There was this sweet 6 MP camera, but then for $300, I could get a Casio that was essentially the same thing in the states. Computer stuff and laptops, forget it - defininetly not cheaper.

But for car stereos, there's nothing that touches these in the US. Feature wise, they are 18 - 24 months ahead of anything we get. And for 2din units, the US is sorely lacking.

Does that use U.S. standard AM and FM frequencies or Japanese?

I lived in Japan for nearly five years - their digital radios center on different frequencies than ours.

mrGraphics you think you can go to a Nissan dealer while your there and find out how much the HID Foglight kit for a '05 Skyline 350GT cost.

Japanparts.com wants almost 1700 and i have a fellow coworker thats going to japan next week also and just wanted a price.

The radio's look real good hope the frequency matches the US Radio frequency's

The Japanese units will support a different frequency range, but you can get a converter for it. http://www.melting-pot.com/website/p...ml#accessories

I'm going to the Nissan Center now - I don't know what it is, but its right by the Sony building.

Hey Paul350Z, where is a good place to look for auto parts? Is there a district like Akihabara?

Neat stuff. But does anyone know why, if they are japanese market only, the controls are written in english on most stuff?

I spend a lot of time in Japan myself. Considered picking up a double-din unit there also, but I've got to have XM ready capability. Let me know if you see any. (don't think xm is available over there, but maybe).

There are side effects though... these converters don't allow you to get every US station when converted.. you usually have to choose to get stations chopped off the top or lower end of the dial..
