can you talk me out/in to the escort solo II?
I know the corded detectors are the bomb, but I have had both cordless and corded and I have to say the cordless ones are easier to live with if you don't want to hard wire and might jump between 2 or 3 cars.
I had the old solo 5 (about 6 years old) but sold it. Now the new solo has laser detection as well and claims to be 400% better than other cordless (not sure what this means).
Anyone ?

Cordless Escort
I was just getting ready to post a question regarding cordless radar dectectors and whether any of them were any good. To me hard wiring is for the birds. Any more info? Price?

You can't beat them for convienience but supposedly they are unreliable because as the battery drains so too does your detection power. Any test comparing the two has always slammed the cordless units as far as performance. I guess if you always change the batteries so that you are always at full power, this may not be a problem.
As for hardwiring being "for the birds", I don't know if you mean that it is hard to do or you simply don't like it. I've done it myself with both of my Valentine One units and it is really very easy to do.

I think it is about $325 for everything. It runs on 2 AA batteries. The model I had was 6 years old and I sold it on E-bay for $100 and was missing clips etc. So it seems like it's something that has a reputation. I sold it because it had no laser detection. I'm not sure how worthwhile laser detection is anyway. Also I was thinking that the newer model would be better in all other modes as well. I don't know that much about it though.
I know the cordless is "not as good" as the V2 or 8500 but I was wondering if it was "good enough".
The way I see it a detector that is not the best but still acceptible is better than no detector at all.
My experience with the old solo was positive. The best feature was it's small size you could slip it in your pocket. Also I never left it in sight so it's not a temptation like these hard wired radar detectors.

My Solo II is on the way too. From my conversations with the Escort people, they say it has very good range, about equivalent to one of the somewhat older corded Escorts. He compared it favorably to what I use now, the Escort 4500. And since that has been great for me, no tickets yet with that, this should be just fine as well. May not be a Valentine but sure will serve the purpose.

Why all new RD have laser detection? Same reason why cars have more than 2(often much more) speakers - people thing that product is better if it has laser detection.
More than 2 speakers mess with stereo effect badly. Laser in RDs is useless and makes them more pricey... But manufacturers have to do this to keep up with competiotion and appeal to average Joe.
