Default Which after market alarm for the Z?

Just wondering how many of you guys have an after market alarm in your Z and which brand would you recommend?

My Z comes with the usual factory alarm which I heard is not very useful.

I checked at a local auto security shop and they said they would charge me $299 for a Viper alarm system installed - is that a good system and is the price reasonable?

Also anyone has an alarm system that uses the same OEM remote controller? I just don't like the looks or feel of the ones they showed me. Thanks-

friend of mine just paid 500 for the viper system installed.. I`m sure there are different ones, but the Viper alarm he has is amazing; yet a bit unnecessary considering we live in scottsdale =P

that must be the one that pages you or something if the car is tampered with. I think its a bit of an overkill for my needs.

Get the Code Alarm, with all of the sensors and everything! I have it and love it, it tells you if the alarm is going off, the remote does! features: opens gas door, headlights, windows up and down, two blue led lights in dash, trunk opens, and a bunch of other stuff!!!

From Personal Experience, my car had a Viper Alarm, the club, and the aautolock which is a club that goes around your brakes/Clutch and the car still got stolen. The viper alarm nor any of the clubs helped me keep my car. Sad part is, when they found my car the next morning (obviously stripped) it still had the autolock on it. if they want your car they will get it. all an alarm is good for is a discount on your insurance but you should already be getting that with the factory system. I don't mean to be negative but i would not recommend a viper.

wow, which model is that and how much did it cost?

and just a thought - isn't putting 2 blue LEDs in the dash advertising to thieves what brand alarm you have so its easy for them to disarm or bypass it

That's knida been my feeling all along about alarms - and am not really looking for reducing my insurance since i get a very good rate using my home insurance company.

Its just that since I got my Z everyone keeps telling me to get an alarm. So I was wondering how many Z owners bothered with one and was it worth it.
Thanks for the input so far.

I have a custom Compustar SWSS-AS . I recommend getting this done at Audiomobile out in Oakland since you are in the Bay Area & ask for Alan who is the owner. He does top notch work & custom work. He was actually at the RR/TI meet & had the Z with the custom Q45 "gatling style headlights" which was one of his personal projects. You can ask around the NorCal forums...he is very well known.

Alarms are meant to discourage thief’s from breaking into or stealing the car, not to prevent it. I had a pager alarm that helped stop a thief from stealing my stereo system. That doesn’t mean they didn’t try….

If you want thief prevention, get a boomerang system.

+1 on this. If someone really wants to break in, they will. But personally, I'll spend good money on a system if it helps discourage the thief from even attempting to break into and/or stealing the car. I want to make sure it's going to be a b*tch for him if he does try. Most thieves will move on to the the next car which is easier to break into.

I saw this new alarm system on TV...is shoots fire out from under the car when someone tries to break in. The other system I saw electrocutes the thief when they sit in the drivers seat. I'm gonna upgrade to this new alarm system next.

A buddy of my install an aftermarket alarm on my Z which uses the stock remote controller and also add other functions to it. I think the stock remote controller looks better than an aftermarket one (compare to the one I got)

Autolok I think is the brand that had one that after 3 minutes it will lockk your doors and roll up your windows as well as page you with the fob lighting up indicating what part of the car was tampered with, its $450 at my audio store and was going to be my next purchase on my old car. If I put as much money into the Z as I did my previous ride I'll be buying that alarm.
