you're not going to need a cap

dynamat the entire stock sub location ( are you going to have custom enclosure )

mine has no rattling , thank goodness , but i have a box enclosure in there.

where are you going to place your amps?

I have the same setup, although I'm running the JL SB rather than a single 10w3. I believe I have 2 gauge running from the battery back to a JL distributor near the SB. from there it is 4 gauge to the amps.

I haven't found that i needed to dynamat anything (yet).

well im sure it will sound better than stock....but to have it sounding the best...you need a box enclosure. I have the box enclosure and it sounds GREAT!

Go freeair for now...and upgrade later, however, if u go free air..you should dynamat the entire sub space

I too am very interested in ideas/opinions on the subwoofer.

I have already replaced the headunit, put components in the front and have a 4 channel amp in the passenger compartment.
I put in a 4 channel so I could bridge the amp's rear channel to end up with a 3 channel amp with enough power to drive a SUB.

Now I am trying to figure out what to do about a sub.

I have the 10" JL Audio in a pre-made wedge shaped sealed box (not homemade) with I use in my SUV. That arrangement lets me remove the sub box when I need the room for plywood and such.

As an experiment, I tried this sealed box JL sub in my Z to see how it sounds.
It fits between the rear speaker bulkhead and the Z cross member but I did have to turn the sub upside down to get it to fit due to the wedge shape.

The results were a very Nice tight, understated bass which is what I want BUT I really dislike ruining the looks of the interior of this car with a black carpet box in the trunk.

Now to my question:

Seems like two options for sub installation for me.

1) Factory setup in the sub area.
From your comment, I take it that the sub area behind the driver's seat is not airtight enough for good sound even if I were to get the aftermarket mounting bracket, cover and load up that space with dynamat?

2) Sealed box IN the factory location.
Is there enough room in that sub area for a pre-made speaker box with enough volume to sound right? I assume going this route would mean having the sub fire UPwards?

Which would sound better #1 or #2?

If I have to go the #2 route , anyone know the dimensions of the box and where I could buy one off the net?

Thanks for any help folks can provide

I have the same question ... does someone make a box that fits into the stock enclosure? I'd like to drop a 10w3 in there ...

Mine are drilled and mounted inside the doors above the speaker and close to the top of the door. They fit very good in that location and are close enough to the speaker and tweeter that you don't need a ton of wire - looks clean!

I really doubt it, but you can easily find out from JL or your dealer.
