Speeding Ticket with Passport 8500
Hello fellow members,
Here is my story. I bought the Passport 8500 and it is working like a charm. This little gadget has worked well against radar; also I changed the settings so that it ignores X-band so it works even better.
Well After month, I get my first speeding ticket today. I was caught by Laser, which my passport did detect. I was able to slow down to 75 (speed limit was 60) instead of the 80+ I was doing. I was speeding so ahh well, but I am wondering has anyone had any experience with the Escort Shifter ZR3 with the Passport 8500. I am satisfied with the radar abilities, but I need something to help me against Laser or LIDAR.
If anyone has used the Shifter and it has helped or not helped detecting laser please drop a line or two to say what happened.
Also any mounting tips on the 350z would be awesome. I am thinking about buying one tonight.
P.S. I live in the Seattle area and need to get out of this ticket. It was in Whatcom County…any ideals or lawyer suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks in Advance.

Well you admitted to speeding even after having a radar detector that you said caught the laser....so why do you need to get out of this ticket. Sound to me like you were just plain stupid.

Mike on the forums sells a cool mount that attaches to your rear view mirror. I also remember seeing some posts about "stealth" installs where you mount the receiver to the headliner, just ahead of the hatch. (I have a roadster or I'd be able to tell you more). You might want to check out the Blinder unit for Laser. I have s very sophisticated customer who swears by it, and he's a gadget-guy. It runs in conjunction with your existing detector, I think.

Because why get points if you can get out of it.
Try going to court and pleading not guilty without a lawyer first. Ive always got my tickets reduced to no point violations. 75 in a 60 isnt exactly too bad so they might cut you a break without a lawyer. They just want your money and no point violations cost more than regular point tickets. If they dont want to reduce you can tell them you want to schedule another court date to bring a lawyer in.

Zr3 shifter
Paul,
I have had the ZR3 shifter installed since spring and for me it has definately been worth it. Living around Columbus, Ohio the shifter has saved me approx. 8-10 times. Each time I have been lidared or lasered the ZR3 has successfully shifted it and volia no pullovers or tickets. I know it is working from the worried looks the police officers/ state troopers are giving their laser guns. SO for me it has paid itself off. I will try and get some mounting pics for you by wednesday. Hope this helps.

Hey Everyone as usual I appreciate the time you took to awnser.
Except One comment which I am trying not say anything about, but Anyway. I think I am going to go price a ZR3 out now.. One dealer told me it is 398 + 300 for labor to install. I may try to take on the project myself at those prices. My time is worth that.
Anyone living in the seattle area with a ZR3 please raise your hand

ok, I have experience with tickets in washington state... lived there for 20 some odd years.
#1 on the back of the ticket request a court date.
#2 subpoena the issuing officer, request this on the ticket itself.
#3 on the ticket request a discovery of the officers qualifications to use a radar/laser gun .
#4 on the ticket request a discovery of the guns techincal check offs and the dates they were performed.
#5 Make a certicifed copy (Notory) of the ticket with all the information you asked for.
Now by Washington state law, they MUST produce all information you request prior to your court date.
They will never issue you all the information you asked for and the police officer will most likely not show up either.
Once you get to court notify the judge that you never recieved the requested materials and that you subpoenaed the issuing officer and he has not shown up. Then ask that the case be dismissed and a bench warrant be issued for the issuing officer failing to appear (sweet justice).
I have used this no less than 5 times in Pierce and King counties alone.
This also works in other states. I have used it twice in California.

ZR3 Install - The device above the shifter is the display, above the top guage in the A pillar is a green led, turns red upon detection in case the stereo is blasting or you are blasting, the confusers for lazer go in the front grille on either side of the plate, and one in the rear above plate. Also have a remote button for turning confusers off. An aux speaker is avail. for convertables. I have also the SR7 (basically the 8500) combined with the ZR3, adds a radar detector below front plate. Very happy with it. No tickets.

The beauty of this is, no matter what they will never get all the information to you and they have to dismiss the ticket. The drawback is you have to miss some work (not really a draw back in my opinion).
