The only difference between the US ones and the Canadian ones is that the Canadian ones say, "Cops ahead Eh".

How would they confiscate it? Shouldn't it be hidden? Also, why do you have two?

Heres the awnser.....

Police (OPP mostly) have "radar detector detectors"...... So they can tell!!! Also some police officers notice that as soon as they "gun" you if you slow down that usually tells them that you have one...
What do you mean "How would they confiscate it"??? They just do!!!
Yes as soon as you get stopped I hide mine.....
I carry two for the following reason....
Should I get stopped for speeding and they ask for the detector, I give them the cheap one.... that way you loose a few bills, but not 4-500$Cnd that you would pay for a ""Good one"".....

Wheres what I do.....

So if I'm driving and she goes off.....

1)Unplug it ASAP!!! Then wait for the potential threat to be recognized (Can take up to 10kms to do so)
2)DONT SLAM ON THE BRAKES!!!!! Remember a gradual slow down......
3)If you do get stopped, and they ask you for it.... dont lie, just give them the cheap one... I've had this happen, and just gave the cheap one to the officer and they confiscated it without giving me the 600$CND fine for using one....

Why do you need a radar detector? If you can't outrun a cop on horseback in a Z then..........

Good idea. The V1 is supposed to be invisable to radar detector detectors. I guess it isn't true. I'd like to get a good detector, how did you smugle yours?

I bought them on my way back to Ottawa from NC......
You dont need to ''smugle'' them over!!!! THEY ARE LEGAL TO OWN in Canada, but Illegal to USE in Canada! (Except for Alberta)

Mine save me all the time when I drive down to TO.... 401 from Pickering to the DVP seems to be the worst for popo speed traps

Cheers,
Louis

Cool man! I did'nt know that. I remember back when the V1 first came out, I tried to order one but they would'nt ship to Canada. Good to know I can do a Buffalo run and grab one. How did you find out that they're legal to own here?

Thanks for the info. So do you just risk the chance that you may get caught given the OPP have 70 or so of the Spectre units?

A radar detector will never be 110% fail save....
