The Kappas are 2 ohm vs. the Bostons 4 ohm rating. 2 ohms will make the amp work harder and may generate more heat which you may want to consider if powering them from just the head unit, I'm purchasing the Infinity Reference series componets which are 4 ohm for the front since im not running an amp and also the price is more in my budget. If theres a circuit city near you they might have a display to listen to, they usually cary Infintity not sure about Bostons though.
I agree with running a 4ohm speaker off the HU and not a 2ohm speaker, because HU's usually do not run 2ohm stable. This would be ok if the user isn't looking for a loud set up or is not planning to run big bass. But this type of setup will not statisfy the type of person that is seeking big sound. True, amps cause more heat and running 2ohms does generate more heat, but how much of a negative influence will this cause to an audiophile? The real issue is power consumption when running high wattage to subs. Heat then becomes an issue. Mids/highs will rarely cause an issue, as their power consumption is generally much smaller compared to subs.
