Keeping the radio on after ignition is off?
Quite a few new cars have this feature and I think it's pretty nifty. In wich the radio stays on after you remove the key until the doors are opened.
I was just curious as to whether someone has tried to recreate this in their Z or how to go about doing it.

Thats usually set on a timer, will usually keep radio, wipers, windows and other minor stuff on to allow you to adjust or shutoff those things for the next time you start the car. The Z does this for the windows already, actually if you look (better at nite) at your controls on the door the will stay lit even after key has been removed from ignition indicating you still have power to them and as soon as you open door they shutoff. But would be interesting if one could use that existing feature and tie into radio.

Just take the ignition wire for the radio and wire it to the source for the doors/window. That would give the radio the same delay as the power windows.
This sounds like a nice feature to have. I may try to do this over the holidays since I will have a lot of time off.

I have a switch installed so I can go to "Show" mode and leave the audio system and computer on for as long as I want without the key in the ignition. An on,off,on switch, run one side for switched, the other for constant, then you can choose.
I do like the idea of it being on till you open the door, I may do that too.

I think the intention is to keep power to the radio until the door is opened, regardless of the amount of time that passes after the key is removed from the ignition. Our power windows only function for 45-60 seconds after the car is turned off. Many GM products (others too I suspect) retain accessory power, such as to the radio, until the door is opened. This could be an hour or more if someone is sitting in their car for an extended period of time. It can certainly still be achieved, but the simple solution of tying into our factory delay doesn't really accomplish much IMO.

I wouldn't recomend hooking the timed RAP output up to the radio, or any other accessory. The RAP signal only powers low power devices, and I would be hesitant to put any load on the wire (radio, or even a relay for that matter). I would guess that the typical current draw on the RAP output of the BCM is 25mA. A relay will pull approximatly 75mA, three times as much power as the BCM was designed to to supply.
KPtechnologies has a smartRAP module that can be used to do exactly this, but its not out of the testing phase. It basically remains active for 15 mintues after the ignition is shut off, OR until the drivers door is opened. The timer will prevent unintentional battery drain. The module also has a few other little features to add functionality to the system (like the ability to turn the accessory output on with the OEM remote).
I'm not sure about GMs, but I know Fords radios only stay on for about 10-15 minutes after the vehicle is shut off.
