Default Distortion problem

Hey all,

I'm not a big audio guru, but I went ahead and installed my own system. Went fairly well, but I seem to have run into an issue. Here is my setup:

Infinity Kappa 6.5 components in the front
Pioneer 2 ways in the rear
Rockford 4 channel amp
14 and 16 gauge speaker wire

I am having a bit of distortion when the music is going. A slight hiss or static. I have messed with the gains but still no go.. Does not matter if the car is stopped or in motion. It's barely noticeable but it still bothers me. I do not have the RCAs running near the amp cable. What could be causing the problem? Poor grounding? Thanks!

Hiss or static - two different sounds/issues/cures.

Could the problem be coming from the source?

I'd describe it more as static. And it is not constant. Oh and the headunit is a AVIC-N2

could be a few things. But in my other cars i had we did 2 things to keep it distortion free and clean.

1) you need to seperate your channels. Either by having 2 amps or a crossover.

2) Then you can apply resistors on you highs to remove all bass and mid level frequencies.

then on your mids you can remove some high frequencies to only allow mid level frequencies.

other than that maybe a gain is too high or a bad ground.
