Default Subwoofer question

If I buy a new system, (HU, all around speakers, and sub), would it be a good idea to put the new subwoofer where the bose sub sits?

I want it to look like factory, I guess the head unit won't look the same because I will replace it, but I dont want people to notice that I have a sub.

I want to get a 10" JL audio sub, and I wanted to know if this is going to make it sound good, or do I need a box in the trunk?

yes and no...

yes because its a stock stealthy location

no becuase its pretty open and undampened back there...

the best way to do it, is to build a fiberglass enclosure to have sit inside the cavity, and put a 10 in there

the lesser alternative is to complteely dampen and seal the inside of that cavity, and just put the sub in it, but it may not sound very good

If you want stealth you can do what I did. I put 2 10"'s pointing up where my spare tire/jack sits. You can make a custom enclosure there. It sounds great and totally stealth. Only downfall is that you will have no spare tire

even a box under the strut bar for a jl 10w6 or 10w7 is pretty stealth as long as your windows are tinted

But a box that goes under the strut bar takes up some valuable storage space. If you just want to add a little more bass without trying to win any competitions, the compartment behind the drivers seat should work just fine. When I test drove a Touring model with the Bose system, the bass was actually pretty good. So, putting a speaker back there should work just fine. I would build a custom enclosure and dynomat the heck out of that area to prevent rattles. Here is a template for a box that would fit in that area:

That was actually the first thing I did in my car (still have the dynamat in there) sound was not very good, BASS was flat and response was poor.

I have the bose system, but I wanted a little more bass, not to win competitions or anything, just clean deep bass, so I was thinking of shoving a nice sub in there!
