Behold!!!!! New Sub Boxes
I finally got in the groove to finish the sub boxes that were started a month ago. We taped paper and aluminum foil down all around the area in the hatch behind the wells. Then a layer of some kind of putty was put on.
After the putty layer dried, we filled the area with insulation foam for more reinforcement. (didn't know how strong the putty would be on its own). Following that, a few layers of fiberglass were applied. After drying, the fiberglass shells were removed from the putty/foam molds. (One side was a little stubborn so a dremel was used to "persuade" it to release from the mold. This will be fixed by the next round of shots)
At this point, I'm going to cut the exact shapes of the front of the boxes from MDF (or is it MBF???). I'll cut the holes for the subs, JL 8W3's most likely. I'll then attach the wood to the boxes with more fiberglass.
Oh, the black stuff on the inside of the boxes is actually undercoating for more support and to simulate Dynamat. Cross your fingers guys...... If this doesn't work, I'll be forced to purchase a box that will probably take up more space than I would prefer.

Note: The wells are different shapes so the molds were shaped and sized quite differently. You'd be surprised how different they are due to the gas fill tube I assume.

heh, that's another issue I'll have to address later. It's also why I've added in numerous layers of undercoating spray.
It's actually thicker than it looks in the pics. The black throws us off. BUT, I'm sure I'll find out as soon as I finish them and throw some wattage their way!!!
Good call though!
Thanks,
DD
BTW--I had a typo above... I will probably go with JL 8W3v2's.
