>=2005 Z CAN SL Alarm interface users?
Has anyone used this modern interface to install their car alarm?
It uses the >05' Z native OBDII data bus to eliminate cut
and jump wire modifications to the Body Control Module (BCM).
It appears to make DIY alarm installs very easy!
The friendly Firstech Compustar alarm support technician said
they support CAN-SL to their dealers. The alarm manufacturer needs
to document the interface profile (pulse definitions to open doors etc.).
If anyone has used CAN-SL to install their alarm, please would they
post instructions and firmware for the most popular alarms?
This install approach is most robust against reliability issues of crimped contacts
vibrating loose while thumping a 2KW stereo on bumpy turns. %^)

Without an alarm rearm and disarm you really wouldn't save that much on a Z. The hardest part about adding an alarm is the OEM arm and disarm hookup. Most of the other wires are right at the BCM. It would most likely be more cost effective to go without such a module on this car, but I can see that being very popular on cars that offer full CAN support.
Thank you for clarifying Z's data bus in not 100% CAN access. %^(
CAN-SL also accesses the tack reading. Combined with a future
2W pager you could remotely "see" when the oil change is finished
and the service Tech's joyride starts. %^)
