I was wondering if the avx2494 could possibly have navigation added on. It already has the gps antenna for the time so would it be possible to install some kind of software or add on some kind of hardware to give it navigation? Sorry if this is a stupid question, I read about this in another forum and wanted to know if it is possible. Thanks!
I see that you already have the Eclipse DVD Headunit. I am assuming it is the AVX2494. I, like you am hoping that something will happen in the future that will allow NAV. The face/buttons of the AVX and AVN are the same. My installer does not see a reason why at some point in time, with the AVX having the HDD, that Eclipse could not come out with a MOD and DVD that would allow upgrading the unit to make it NAV capable.
Until that happens I think we are out of luck?

Not likely. Eclipse has a really bad habit of taking its time in getting new technology to market as well as not making their products upgradeable. The example that comes immediately to mind is Sat. radio.

I have the AVN5435 w/ Sirius and Ipod. Thing is w/ Eclipse, they have the technology in Japan--ahead of everyone else--they were the ones to start the indash video and slide out video units---they let our market test these new "ideas" and then produce them in the US. Hard to believe but before I purcased the Alpine stuff from my previous ride--I wanted Eclipse 7301 --w/ all toys and called them concerning an add on nav. At the time--Nav was in arbitration because some idiots got into accidents so there were law suits. After these were cleared in court, Eclipse came out wit their AVN units and BAM--it took off big time for All in one units. I probably guess that they won't come out with an add on nav. All though Alpine you can add to it throug the video inputs that seems to be your best option unless you get a new unit. If you do--wait till the fall, generally Eclipse brings out new products in the fall and into the following new year. Hopefully the new AVN7905 will be it.
