Default ODB II - Looking for Info

I have done searches on this topic and nobody has talked about it here since 04. I am looking for some advice/opinions on an ODB II connection to a laptop and eventually a carputer. I am more interested in the performance information than diagnostic information.

I have read on other forums that some of the devices are slow (ELM) and the faster ones (mobydic) need to be reset or unplugged when the car is started.

Where is the connection located? I haven't looked yet, but I understand most are under the steering column

EEZ,

I have a carputer and an OBDII from AutoTAP. http://www.autotap.com/
Its kinda bulky but it does the job that I want it to do. Yes, the plug is just below the sterring collum on the left side. It's hooked up to mY pc via USB. The Ouput is about 1 sec slower. They now support CAN protocal so its been fun to play with. I have customized the dash to include Timing, Load, Intake Temp and a few others.
There is alot of good info on OBDII and CarpC at MP3car.com . A good book to pick up is CAR PC hacks. Has a few other options listed for OBDII and a wealth of info for a new carpc user.
Hope this helps

Yes, I use it on my Z
I will gather a list of all the parameters you can Monitor. This device was developed for Domestic cars, but they are working to get more for Imports. I have been testing other applicaitons to see if they could be compatable with the device. I will get some screen shots put up soon. Please note that there are other Cost effective Items on the market. Do a search in google for OBDII scanners and u will see an enormous range of items. I suggest lots of research. Cheapest is not always the best, Especially when it comes to OBDII.
When you have the gauges on the Screen, man it turns some heads.

eez,

check out a previous thread on pc interfaces
https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....ghlight=cipher

We offer a tool that will fit your needs, Cipher. For more info on Cipher, please visit www.uprev.com. You'll can also find user feedback on this forum if you search for "Cipher".

High speed datalogging, no need to unplug or reset, and user's have successfully integrated our software onto their in-car PC's using Roadrunner. Cipher also supports high-speed logging of the ABS computer (TCS and VDC sensors).

The connection point you are looking for is under the dash, just in front of your left knee while in the driver seat. It points down to the floor.

ODB = Old Dirty Bastard,
OBD = OnBoard Diagnostics

Former was musician who died last year; latter, however, is a darn good auto diagnostics tool
