Default back up camera help

I am shopping for a keyhole type back up camera (the one you usually install them in the keyhole on the trunk).
Do you know if there will be any space behind the rear bumper for the camera?
Thanks guys.

If you're willing to cut medal there's a bit of hollow space between the steel and the plastic interior. This picture is of the existing hole that comes out behind the rear license plate.

You're going to end up drilling into something depending on where you want the camera to mount. The bumper is pretty deep and hollow in a bunch of places. If you're willing to have the camera mounted where there's enough hollow space then you'd only have to drill into the plastic of the bumper. Other areas are going to require lots more work drilling into the body, bumper, or brackets.

You could mount like I did. Right through the rear license plate. The only drilling I had to do was the Plate and behind the plate through the bumper

I mounted mine right on the bumper but I have an aftermarket bumper so there was nice flat spot and I did it with the bumper off the car.

But do you have enough space behind the bumper, or you have to drill the metal bar and the foam?

I had enough space and didnt have to drill anything but the bumper. It is below the license plate.

granted it's a G35, but i didn't do any drilling at all. my pioneer cam gets a great view, and the only thing i had to permanently modify was my license plate frame. the wire runs up thru the rear bumper and thru a factory rubber grommet into the trunk....

It is a pretty straight forward install. I couldnt see anyone charging more than 75 bux including wiring. Thats what I would charge anyway.

IT would cost considerably more if you want to run it through the factory nav system though. It requires a rather costly (around $300) adapter box. Best thing is to go ahead and get that aftermarket screen and run it into there, no adapterbox required

+1

Use aftermarket screen......

It cost me $600.00 just for the module to integrate with the OEM nav. It works great but was rather expensive...
