Question Car Security

Maybe this has been posted, or maybe not.

Anyways, I want a navigation system, I might get a really nice set up but I dont want it stolen!

I don't know anything about alarm systems and which ones are good. My question is, does anyone here knows what is a really good brand for car alarms?

Personally an alarm system doesn't do jack for protecting your car. I don't even bother to turn my head while walking through the parking lot when I hear an alarm. If you're within ear shot of your own alarm you might hear it and respond but then what?

For theft I see the point of ignition by-pass preventing the whole car from being taken but for protecting the interior you might as well mount a couple of blinking LEDs and be done with it. I'm assuming you're talking about an external add-on navigation system like the Garmin or Tom-Tom right? Someone can smash your window and rip those things off the velco faster than you can walk outside to see if it was the wind, the cat, or a thief that set your alarm off.

In 30 years of owning high-end car stereo systems I've never been robbed. I part the car inside where possible and under lighting when not. I have always installed a blinking LED light or two somewhere very visible. I've kept my profile very low not blasting the presence of my $3500 system around the neighborhood I live in. I don't do flash and try to make everything look as stock as possible.

When a system gets ripped off it's been my experence that it's a boy between the ages of 15 and 18 within one city block or so of the victims house or someone (normally doing drugs) within your circle of friends. Avoid advertizing your system and you take out that first group and watch your drug abuse to take out the second.

Im getting the Compustar installed tomorrow, for a bit more peace of mind. Of course its not going to protect the car.. but nothing really can.

The dealer asked me if i wanted Lo-Jack install in my car, i said HELL NO, because if my Z is stolen, i dont want it back. I hope whomever takes it has a hell of a time, and thrashing the thing beyond recovery.. because ill be searching for the next whip to buy.

i donno where you live but stereos get jacked here all the time.. i sell car stereos and i have at least 2 people a week coming in saying they have had their stereo stolen..not all of them are from their house many happen in front of stores or restaurants i seriously doubt all of them are from peoples neighbors.. though i will say that advertising your system is not smart.. alarms can be nice though they will scare a lot of theives off.. dark tint can also help...
