yeah, me too - cept that I would screw it up. So while $275 is kinda pricey, someone like me would have to pay to have this done - so for me the only question is whether something like this is cheaper than paying an audio shop to do the custom mounting.

How long would it take for this to get stolen in this day and age?

there are different kits out there that are a whole frame, and they arent easy to steal as to get them off you have to get inside car and remove the rear plastics to get to the bolts, of course someone could just rip it off but would damage camera and be useless, shop around you can get these kits for 150-200. they also sell just the cameras which you just drill a hole and flush mount it(not going to be able to steal) you usually mount them in the key hole, but since we dont have one you can mount it in the center of liscense plate, these are cheaper. you can get color and night vision with all these kits also which i would recommend. check ebay for these they go for under 100 bucks

I hadn't thought about the theft issue, you might be right. People that would steal this stuff usually are too stupid to realize that they would be rendering the item useless after removal. I doubt the schmuck that stole my Z hood ornament and street scene grill tried to re-use them on his Z. More likely he just hung it up in his bedroom or something. Man I wish I could have caught that scumbag.

they don't pay much attention at your license plate anyway. Why worry?

I don't think it is very noticeable either. I wouldn't realy worry about this getting stolen either.

By the time I am ready to install the backup camera, I will already have my system, which means I will already have my aftermarket alarm. While we are talking about theft protection, I thought I'd ask - can anyone recommend a good alarm system? I want something with a proximity sensor and possibly a pager. Remote start would be nice, but I've heard these can be dangerous when using them with a manual transmission. Any recommendations? If I am going to go through the trouble of installing an alarm system, I want the best.

Thanks.

I recommend the Viper 791x, i just install mine couple weeks ago, the remote is a 2-way pager, and it has remote start, for the remote start you need the 556u imobilizer unit plus a spare coded key.
I beleave you can also install a addon gps tracking unit to this alarm. Go to DEI web site directed.com and check it out. Oh also invest in a backup battery like 520T and/or the backup siren/battery.

I will check out the viper. Anyone have any experience with the Crimestopper CS-2004TW2 ? That is the other one that has been recommended to me.

why pay $275 when you can get a pioneer camera like mine (which is expensive at $175, ebay price) and customize it onto whatever license plate frame you're using. i think mine came out looking better than that built in frame/camera. (and yes, i do have a license plate frame that says www.G35Driver.com... the top part used to say "SI_G35Coupe" which is my SN from Driver)

It would cost me more to customize it after I break the camera and frame and have to buy it twice
