I would lean towards Eclipse or Alpine. Personally, I love the eclipse units. Top notch SQ, excellent features, great screen.

The Alpine has a slightly better screen, SQ is slightly less overall, and the features are equal to the Eclipse.

The Pioneer is a good unit, but in term of SQ and screen quality, it falls short compared to the eclipse and alpine high end units.

Alpine is always a great choice.

I have a Kenwood 911. Tried and true w/ the 5.1 surround, nav and XM direct connect. Love kenwood and I know about 10 of my buddies that all use Kenwood screen/Tv setups. The 8017 is a great unit as well. Eclipse and Alpine are both great as well. I would say the alpine over the Eclipse, but the Alpine is more towards serious audiophiles. But Kenwood you seem to get more bang for your buck and the SQ (sound quality) difference has many diffent factors to consider (i.e. RCA quality,amp quality, power source quality, etc.) Most of the time the SQ difference is marginal at best and most of the time hardly noticable by untrained ears.

SQ= sound quality.

Kenwood is good. Is it better than Alpine or Eclipse or Pioneer? No, not in my opinion since i've used high end screens from each of those manufacturers in the past. It's all a matter of preference based on the features you are looking for. The kenwood does many things well, but is nothing special for the $. The eclipse has excellent sq and a very good screen. The alpine has very good sq, but has an excellent screen. Depends on what is most important to you.

As an audiophile, I prefer the eclipse units. As an avid movie viewer, I might lean towards the alpine. Your call.

Pioneer would be a slight step below these units. Kenwood a step below the pioneer. All the units are excellent. It's just that when getting into the high end stuff, I tend to be very picky about the products I buy. Hence my rating of these units.

For the record, I am currently not using any of these brands in my car, so there is no bias here. Simply my opinion based on experience.

Feel free to check out my install:

I should also add that I used these screen setups in the same conditions. Same car, amplifiers, speakers, etc. It was clear that Alpine and Eclipse were the best sq units, with eclipse having the slight edge overall.

I drove 130+ one day and the screen was still fine.. well, my gf was still watching the movie... N2 is great system. I do love it. Screen quality wise, it's good enough for me. I've seen the Eclipse, and it definitely beats the N2 screens. As for the disk, I've to change disk in and out so that might be problem for you. But I know everywhere I'm going and every road. The only time I use them are on weekends when I hit a new restaurant. But I use the disk before I drive so I know the route before I drive anyways.

I would go with either the AVN7000 or the AVN6600. The 6600 has not yet been released though. I believe the 7000 has.

I have not used the 2006 model eclipse's, but the specs are essentially the same as the 05 models, so I have no reason to think they would differ in terms of performance. Check out either of those models on their website www.eclipse-web.com.

Good luck. Keep us posted on your purchase!
