Thumbs up Go for it!

GOOD LUCK - ONECOLLEE

"Also, tape some newspaper down on the garage/shop floor as the resin can pull up some chunks of concrete while trying to remove it" I Second that motion.

Take your time. This is your baby.
Do post pictures of your progress

DIVER DOWN - Good job on your boxes. They look real clean.
At that angle they should bank off the glass and flow to the
front of the car, a real long bass wave, should be amazing.

I'm just getting back into this, I used to install High End Systems
for a living here in CA - Excited to get my Z going soon.

Thanks again Magnetic, I hope to know something by Thursday or Friday (at the latest) on the sound.

I'll post my findings and any tweaks at that point. I'm hoping to get a pretty "tight" sounding bass lick. I prefer more rock/alternative stuff than bumpin' rap.

Now, reading Onecoolee's posts, I want to do it all over again!!! The only thing I would change is the temperature here in Tennessee. I've had the space heater cranked in the garage and it was still pretty nipply!

Default One more question...

For you guys with fiberglassing experience...

Here is what I plan on doing:

After I make my initial mold of the area which will be below the hatch area covering the tire (left rear wheel well area), I will be building up the upper portion of the enclosure to house a JL 10W6. I will build a baffle plate consisting of 3/4" mdf and 5/8" mdf. What I wanted to do is mate the bottom portion of the box (all fiber) to the an angled top portion mdf and fiberglass. I was hoping to use the 3/4 mdf and attach a 5/8" mdf trim ring (glued together) to increase the depth a little to account for the 10w6. Then I want to "feather-in" the fiber into the mdf trim ring area so that the mdf area is not all flat and block like. I think this is what people do in door panels. I assume that if the resin will pull up chunks of concrete, that it will definitely bond permanently to the mdf...is this correct ?

Is this the typical practice for speaker baffles, especially for high performance drivers that require a 3/4 to 1" mdf baffle ? How do you guys think this would turn out ?

I just want to do this right the first time... thanks for any help.

No problem bonding the resin to the MDF. Tapering in will just take a little patience and TLC. Your measurements sound fine!

Just take your time!
