Jl Question
JL fans, i need some help. Im designing a system to BUMP. Well, i want good clear sound (thus the choice of JL's), but i want the capability to really get those subs pounding. If u wouldn't mind , especially JL users, could you give me a rundown (and maybe the bumpability factor
) of each of these sub combos =
10W6 x3
10W6 v2 x3
10W3 v2 x3
(obviously some will bump harder than others, but its the price factor, well, how much of a 'bump' difference is there)
Sorry bout using 'bump' so much, but its the only word i could think of.
Also, to power these subs, could i use a JL 500/1 amp, or should i step up to a 1000/1???
Thanks for any input

...who knows maybe soon. JL is also coming out with a new 8W7. Buy the woofer in raw form and have a custom fiberglass enclosure built for your Z.

JL Audio’s reference-line of high performance subwoofers expands in 2003 to include an eight-inch version. The 8W7 “Heavy Eight” (17 lbs. to be exact), shares all of the technologies and performance characteristics found in the larger W7’s while working in well under one cubic foot (0.7 cu.ft. net, typically). This makes it possible to achieve W7 performance in more applications than ever before.
Patented cooling circuits, patented suspension design and extremely linear, DMA-optimized motor behavior allow the 8W7 to perform at amazing levels for extended periods of time without breaking a sweat or degrading in sound quality.
With razor-sharp sub-bass definition, super-natural low-frequency extension and enough output capability to be the only sub in a serious SQ system, the 8W7 will cause car audio enthusiasts to re-evaluate the reference standard for “small” subwoofers.
Key Technologies
1. OverRoll™ Surround (U.S. Patent #5,687,247 and #5,949,898)
2. W-Cone™ (U.S. Patent #6,496,590)
3. Floating-Cone™ Attach Method (U.S. Patent #6,501,844)
4. Plateau-Reinforced Spider Attachment (U.S. Patent #6,118,884)
5. Radially Cross-Drilled, Undercut Pole Piece (U.S. Patent #6,243,479)
6. Massive Forced-Air-Cooled Aluminum Alloy Frame (U.S. Patent #6,219,431 and #6,229,902)
7. Highly Linear, DMA Optimized Motor System
8. Huge Diameter, Progressive-Roll Spider
9. Co-Extruded Double Lead Wires
Nominal Diameter: 8.0” (203mm)
Continuous Power Handling (Pt): 300 Watts
Effective Piston Area (Sd): 38.0 sq.in. (0.0245 m2)
One-Way Linear Excursion (Xmax): 0.75” (19mm)
Nominal Impedance (Znom): 3 Ohm
Overall Diameter: 8.50” (216mm)
Mounting Cutout Diameter: 6.94” (176mm)
Mounting Depth*: 6.83” (173mm)
Overall Depth: 8.32” (211mm)
Sealed Enclosure Range: 0.5-1.0 cu.ft. (14.2-28.3 liters)
Ported Enclosure Range: 0.8-1.5 cu.ft. (25.5-42.5 liters)
*0.5” (13mm) of additional pole vent clearance is required behind the motor structure.
This should fit in the stock Z sub enclosure

i'm also a JL audio fan. i've had their 10w0's their 12w3's their 10w3's their 8w6's and finanly their 12w7's. i've owned all those subs and by far the 12w7 was the best but way too loud for my taste. i'm waiting till april and buying the 8w7's (two of them) and am going to put a 500/1 to everything in the car (boston pros up front and back) and then mount those 8's inside of a customer enclosure under the bar.
