Default Which Pac unit to use with Kenwood ddx-8017?

I'm trying to find out which pac device i'm supposed to use to maintain my steering wheel controls. Im going to be using the kenwood ddx-8017 headunit. I'm trying to avoid the pac devices that use infrared, so i'm looking for a hard-wired one. As of now, i'm looking at the swi-alp, but can someone please confirm it for me before I purchase it? Thanks.

Yes the pac swi alp will work with kenwoods. When using this module though make sure you get one that is newer version. When they were first released they would not work with the kenwoods.. I know this because one of my customers has a kenwood deck and that is how we retained is steeringwheel controls.

Good to know...I think the next generation kenwood units (e.g. ddx-6019) will give you the ability to connect to the steering wheel controls without the need for an external module such as pac swi alp.

You are still going to need the external module, even for the new units.
