After LCD install, check engine light is on but why?
Sup guys! After I get this problem squared away ill post pictures and let you know what screen I am using. Today I picked up my car from the installer and ill admit he did a pretty good job. The problem is my stupid check engine light is on and he can't figure out why. He did check over a few things and all lights etc work fine. The first time I cranked the car up he forgot to replug the connector for the computer/displayer for the tire pressure readings etc. Anway I still get the check engine light. Is this common after a LCD/DVD player install and if not what could be the problem. Also how long do i need to uplug the negative terminal on the batter to reset the ecu. I am wandering if thats the problem however i did unplug for about 15 minutes but no luck. Any Suggestions?
I had the same problem when I installed my XM radio, the light came on so I went to the dealer and when he plugged the computer he got a shitload of codes, what I think happened to me was that I didn't disconnect the battery so when I removed the center console you unplug a unit that process a bunch of signals that got set off when I replugged that unit back in.
I unplugged mine without disconnecting the batt... No Probs. The only thing I can think of is this...
The people having this problem: Do you have the models with the tire pressure gauge?
I have a base without one. Maybe this is why I havn't had this prob.

Yes, disconnecting the center console can cause nightmares...
I have had my Z apart a couple times, and both times I disconnected the center triple meter console, the check engine light has come on. I know how to reset the ECM thanks to the FSM, but it will come on. I do have a touring model, so maybe it is related to the tire monitors...I am not totally sure. However, I have had similar experiences working with the battery unplugged as well...the Factory Service Manual says 24 hours of having the ground unplugged will reset the ECM if you do not know how to do it in Diagnostic mode.
In the process of removing the passenger's side seat, I caused the Z to go into a frantic. It disabled the SRS system, and I found that it was due to the Intelligent manageability system which did not know how to handle the fact that the airbag was no longer connected. It totally disabled the SRS, so again, I had to look at the FSM to figure out how to reset teh SRS...it worked!
I also found out that disconnecting the wire harness in the middle of the console between the seats with the battry connected causes the alarm to go off...the Z has a mind of its own !
Nevertheless, great care should be taken during any upgrades !
I posted a thread a couple weeks back warning people to be careful during any upgrades...
