I am thinking of getting this HU, I have the non Bose stock stereo and no nav. Question is can I just swap out the HU and use the existing hardware? I am not looking to do a super duper sound system and adding amps and new speakers, etc, just want a head unit with IPOD and Aux in. I chose Alpine because it has the Full Speed Direct Connect IPOD cable (KCE-422i) and its only $30 compared to $100 plus for other brands box units.

 

yeah you can swap it out and use the factory speakers w/ an aftermarket headunit, just to let you know its going to sound terrible though. I mean the factory speakers are clarion so, you know.

nevermind, did some more research...and no it doesn't work with the 9853's

 

I have the 9856 it is the same as the 9857 but doesn't have biolite. It sounds horrible with the stock speakers. You get decent bass response, but it's the highs that are way too harsh. Alpines bbs processing makes it sound great at low volume levels but crank it up and the highs are way too harsh. I have the treble setting in the negative 3 to 5 range and still cannot fix the treble issue.
