Factory Nav. On its own

Will the nav. system work by itself without the head unit. I am putting in an aftermarket HU and don't want the voice. Will it work?

The voice you can set it to off.

Actually, what I am looking to know is if the nav. system can work without the interface to a head unit. So even if there was no stereo would it still work?
