This guy posted because he wanted to know if 15" speaker would fit. I think we all agree here that it will. So Muppet comes on and says any thing larger than a 10" will sound like chit! On this point I agree with NimWHIT that you could go larger and not effect sound quality. But for him to throw out big words and say 15" could sound like an 8"(maybe not in these words) is crazy. I get what he's saying, I do, but we're not in the middle of Fosgates training facility in AZ. where we can run all sorts of fun test to make our brains swell.

I'm an SPL guy, thats what I was trained to build(why we used kickers) . Don't get me wrong, we built a shop car with cute ID horns in the dash with nice 6"ers in the kicks, ID 8's on the rear deck with a nice sealed 10" but thats not what helped us sell speakers. It was the Ho Problems Truck with 24 Kicker 12's(later went fosgate) that hit I believe 164-166 with a stock window(we competed against tanks) in 2000(Daytona).

Well, I have to admit I quit building boxes awhile ago to become a GC so maybe they make some bad *** 8" or 10"s now. So to the guy with the 15" woofer, sell it, go buy and 8" and go rock the block!

Agreed ... some of us are in much more capable facilities

8s have come a LONG way lately ... with the introduction of all these new motor topologies (XBL, LMS, SG, DD ... on and on) ... we have 8s with up to 25mm of linear excursion. They go low, they hit hard and they are "fast"

Subs are in NO way what the used to be ... your common $80 driver is .. but specialty shops all over the world have re-invented what we call bass these days.

Well ... to be honest ... most people don't care that much to argue about audio .. so if they do .. I assume they are up do date on our recent technologies, etc ... I kinda just assumed that we all knew what niche companies and woofers were capable of.

Sorry for all the long winded posting .. but this is my niche ... I kinda think I know what I am talking about here ... so I don't back down on this stuff

No I know there's always going to be drivers out there that are capable of certain ranges or otherwise out perform the standard. But MY point was that the average 15 will not, in my opinion, (which I back with 10 years experience and a lifetime of listening to and playing music professionally) produce the range and tonal quality necessary to properly blend into the average system.

Completely Correct ... 75% of the 15s out there can't and won't keep up with most front stages.

I just (for nothing else other than the sake of arguing) ... wanted to make sure everyone knew that there are 15s capable. Blanket statements and false beliefs of large diameter woofers being inaccurate and sloppy just bother me sometimes ... yesterday was that "sometime"

onezfan .. I actually like the creative name you came up with for me .. thanks ... I have had this handle on forums for over 6 years and no one has ever changed it to anything interesting until now

Glad this could be resolved.

Now someone try a 16Ov.2 or IDQ15 in their Z with a decent frontstange and let us know how you like it.

That was the dual VC with ribbed surround? Those were Junk, but the old comps were bad ***! The 25th anniversary with the chrome basket couldn't be messed with. We crammed 2 8ohm 12's in the back of a 91 civic h/b on a zr360 and hit 142 on a stingy d/b meter(forgot the name of it).

You never messed with solobarics? How old are you? Because back in the late 90's those were the cats meow! I'm only 26 but this thread is making me feel really old!

Yeah ... the VRs were junk ... but ported, they got loud.

I played with barics ... just never owned a pair ... I was a poor lil bastad back in the day man.

I have almost always used one-off or home audio drivers for car installs... I'm a basslist-er and a home theater guy myself ... but I got into car audio when I worked at Pioneer

You're not old dont worry.

Poor, I know what you mean! Built systems I couldn't afford, now I build houses I can't afford(yet)! Damn you theater guys! The only thing that goes into a house that doesn't have local inspections. I hate inspectors but it sure would get rid of the fly by nights! Good luck with what you do!

figure its time i post again on this.

i still havent gotten a Z yet, found two different ones and trying to decide on an 05 touring or a 06 touring.

anyways i already have a set of boston acoustics pro50 series that i plan on running in the doors and tweeter locations. i might pick up another set of them for the speaker mounts behind the seats, dont know yet. as far as the sub choice is i havent made up my mind yet. ive always been a RF fan since my first car in high school and i'll probably stick with it. i'll probably be getting a T115D2 since the T2 is only recommended for a ported box setup and i want a sealed enclosure. i still have my memphis mc-1000d amp from my old system ill be running 1100@1ohm. i need to pick up a small amp for the components. i do have a 1 farad capacitor but dont know if it will be enough, maybe change out the battery or look into a high output alternator for the car. i also dont have a head unit yet, it would be nice to have an in-dash dvd but i can sacrafice a few $$ to not get one. i just need a head unit that is mp3 capable that has 3 pre-amp outputs atleast at 5v.

ill be doing all the building myself. figureing out cubic feet isnt that hard to do and im good with this kinda building stuff anyways.

any recommendations on brand and model numbers is appreciated.

RF isnt the same company it was back in the day. Id take current memphis over current RF.

According to the 2003 service manual the stock alternator is only good for about 105 amps at max RPM. If you are going to be pouding on the car, a ho alternator isnt a badway to go hahahahah bout time someone got one....

One of the kenwood double dins wouldnt be bad for DVDs and such. With current HU on the market, preamp technology has vastly improved making line drivers useless.

I'm not judging 'cause I care what he does to his car. Hell, put 2 15"s in it. I just get pissed off when I hear ****ty aftermarket sound systems.

Just my opinion though. That's what an open forum is for.
