I have a 2005 Touring with the Bose system, no navigation. There are three buttons; radio, tape & CD. It currently is set up to access the satellite radio by pressing the radio button until Sat is visible. I want to change to XM radio. Is it possible and what do I need?

 

First, why would you want to do that? SIRIUS kicks XM's ***.

Anyway, there's a box that sends the SIRIUS signal to the HU. You need to swap that out with the XM box if you want built in sat. To the best of my knowledge, only a Nissan dealer sells the box for Nissans. You can try crutchfield.com to be sure.

 

Does the Z have just a sirius box or is there also an adapter? The XM direct boxes are easy to come by, it's the adapter for the Bose radio that poses the problem. If the Sirius box plugs in direct then maybe the XM box does as well.

in the trunk of your Z on the left side under the floorboards is the OEM amplifier as well as the OEM Sirius satellite reciever. you need to remove the Sirius reciever and antenna, and install the new XM reciever and antenna. then you should be able to access the XM just like you do the Sirius now.

 

I found the Sirius receiver attached to the rear of the vehicle, near the floor on the passenger side. You can actually get at it by removing the spare tire. The Sirius box is made by clarion and is a Model EN186E. The connections are nothing like the XM direct. It has a large modular plug that apparently goes to the radio and a small modular plug for the antenna and one for the Terk adapter. It doesn't seem possible.

 

yes, you have to use the Nissan XM Reciever, which has the same larger modular plug that your current Sirius one does. the XM Direct has a different connection. check out the link i posted above.... the Nissan reciever is the only one that will plug into the factory system and allow you to control it from your stock headunit
