I Was wondering if the factory sub encolsure behind the driver seat is a sealed enclosure. I wanted to put a 10 inch salo baric in there and they require sealed enclosures. Anyone have any experience with throwing in aftermarket subs in the OEM slot? Any help would be ko0l thanks.

 

Its not sealed. You can place an aftermarket sub in the hole, but I would place some dynomat in the cubby to help prevent rattles, and help seal it a little better. To get better sound, you can go with a free-air sub. For even better results, you can build a custom enclosure that fits in that compartment.

 

its not even deep enough for a solo baric is it?

 

It is pretty deep. If you have the specs for that sub, you can take the panel off and measure how much room is there.

 

Yeah the space behind your seat is enough to a hold a 12" sub if wanted. Im just wondering how i would be able to retro fit a salo baric into it for better bumps....the dyno matting idea doesn't sound bad. It would be kinda hard to make a enclosure inside that area seeing as though it is so0 hard to even get your hand in there to work on anything. Cutting of the metal might be a idea but im trying to stay away from that at this point. Yo Camaro194 wut would you do if you had a salo baric. Best economical way that is ( without purchasing a new sub and getting a custom enclosure made)

 

Is it a Solo Baric-X or an L5-7?
Your gonna have to either build a custom enclosure for that area or another part of the car because solo barics need a deep, leak free box or they sound like ****.

-I'd use Hushmat instead of dynomat, alot better material and stick better..as well as cheaper.

-Get a board and cut a mount for your sub, then seal it. I haven't yet had the opportunity o put a system in the Z so I don't know exactly how deep the compartment is. If your running a Solo-X your not gonna want it in there though unless you do have a real enclosure built.

The box is upside down in the diagram. The sub will be firing down. I have yet to build this box, but there have been others who have.

 

Mind your Thiel-Small parameters - that's not a very big box.

 

I'm not a speaker genius, so please excuse the dumb question, but it seems that most 10" subs want around .75 cu ft. (around 700 cu in.) wouldn't this box be about right , or mabye even large by the time the volume of the sub itself is displaced?

Again sorry if this is dumb, I'm just very interested in building a stealth box like this one.

The Sub I'm planning on is the Infinity 1042w Reference DVC (91 DB, Vas = 1.4, rec. sealed size = .75)

 

How would that sound being fired down?

 

Bass is an onmidirectional sound so the direction the sub is facing is a non issue.

 

.75 cubic feet is 1296 cubic inches, not "around 700".

.75(12 * 12 * 12) = 1296

 

hehe, Thanks I knew I was missing something stupid (geometry was a long time ago)... I converted to inches before calculating volume...

(12*.75)x (12*.75)x(12*.75) = 729
