Default Problem: Cell charger blows fuse

My cell phone charger blows the lighter fuse instantly in my Z. It does not in my other cars.

I purchased a second cell phone charger by a different manufacturer and it blows the fuse too....but not in my other vehicles.

I have plugged other accesorries into the lighter plug and they work fine. I use a garmin nuvi navigation unit and a satalitte receiver occationally, and they work fine.

Anyone experience this problem ?

Did either of you figure out what the proplem is? My cell phone charger blows the 15amp fuse every time with an audible "pop". (the same charger that's worked for a year in a Maxima)

Nope. For testing, I tried a 30 amp fuse . . . still blew.

I did tap into the lighter hot-wire for power for my radar detector . . . but even with the radar detector turned off, it'll blow the fuse.

Grrr - this is getting frustrating. I'll try plugging in Sirius Sportster this evening and see if it blows the fuse. Thanks for the quick reply.

Default Try this:

Plug in your charger with the car off - if it has a red light it should come on - I tried both outlets... plug in your phone. My fuse didn't blow doing it this way. Start the car, or turn on acc - fuse still didn't blow for me. If I plug the charger in (with the phone) while the car is running or the acc switch is on - *POP*.

I can't explain it, maybe it's too sensitive. Phone charges great this way. Still stinks to blow a fuse if you plug in while the car is running. Oh well. I'll post if I find anything else.

*I am sick of that Gnarls Barkley song, "Crazy". It's playing every time I start the car.

I have this problem too and I don't know how to fix it yet.

What is the voltage on your volt metter when you turn on your engine? Mine is 14.5v.

I've had a problem like this in my 240sx but not my G. Take a look inside the receptacle and see how the contacts are set up. The contacts on your chargers could be shorting, thus causing the blown fuses.

I'm going to try this method just to be on the safe side.
