There's no studying involved. You won't know what the heck he is talking about until you buy those items.
Then it's self explanatory.
You just hook it off the nav harness that used to plug into the stock bose HU.
I used Zip Ties and electrical tape to secure my connections.
It works fine even after a mashing that glob of wires back and forth.
Eat that solder!

I just had a car company hookup a new radio but now my factory nav wont work. They (Mickey Shorr) said that the factory nav couldn't be hooked up without the factory radio. Is that true?

thanks
Stock Clarion/Bose CD changer finally got stuck so i put in the Pioneer AVH-P3100DVD with HD radio attachment. Got a cheap harness off ebay for 6bucks. The factory Nav on my 2003 outputs 9.5V on the mute line, so i had to use onecoolee's NPN resistor setup. Works great! Not sure if you're still on here, but thanks, this hookup is easy, it's getting the stereo in and out that's hard LOL. Used an old labtech computer speaker that's shielded and small so i left it in the space under the radio. Oh yeah, and to all the folks who want to know, yeah the stereo sounds okay with the stock bloes speakers, actually sounds louder with the pioneer head unit. Maybe because i was listening to HD radio, but it was clear, no loud hiss like it's claimed to happen with the bose amps. The pioneer is schweeeet!

I just would like some clarification here. Could someone please tell me if I can just hook a speaker to my nav output wires without using the mute feature. If I need my nav I'll just turn the system down and use it. It sounds like it can be done.... if so can someone tell me what color the two nav out wires are?

you can do that, but you won't be able to hear it very well. Since you'll probably put the speaker the same place i did, under the head unit, or under the seat like some other people did, it won't be that loud. This mod is easy, 3 cheap parts you can find at radio shack. But, if you insist, the two wires you need are the L/B and W/B the L/B i think in my car was black/blue and W/B is white/black. The W/B wire is the negative lead for the speaker. The R/B black/red wire, and B/P black/pink are not used if you do not want to hook up the mute.
