Subaru honk/beep alarm swap?
My friend has an 06 STI, and when he locks or unlocks his car it makes a classy electronic beeper sound. Sort of like on a BMW of a Mercedes-benz. We located the beeper/speaker module right behind his front bumper. If i order this part from subaru, can it be wired up to work with my 2006 Z?
I wouldn't bother with the Subaru part. Just get a regular alarm siren for cheap and wire it up.
The IPDM (Intelligent Power Distribution Module located in the engine compartment) outputs a ground pulse on pin 51 (G/B wire on the 16 pin connector) when it wants to chirp the horn via the horn relay. You would chop this wire and connect it to the - lead of a regular alarm siren. The + lead of the siren would wire to the battery via a fuse.

You can't simply use any alarm/piezo siren. These will NOT produce the classy beep you are looking for, I know from experiance. I've been working on this for well over a year. The 'classy' beep is a soft chirp centered around 3000khz.
Getting a piezo speaker (not siren) from another car most likely won't work either, unless you have a piezo driver (you can't drive most of them with a straight 12vdc signal).
I have a prototype of stand alone beep system on my G35, and honestly I love it much more then I thought I would. Check out: http://kptechnologies.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7 for more information.
