Amp clipping issues
I just installed an infinity 4 channel amp and I'm wondering if it's normal for the clip light to flash. It doesn't stay on but definitely blinks when I turn it up (not super loud, but just loud). I haven't tuned it yet but I wonder if something is wrong. I have put a voltometer on the leads and got a strong 14 v, so grounding should be cool. Also, there is a noticeable hiss when there is no volume (this is also present when the RCAs are disconnected so it can't be the deck).
Any help is appreciated.

It seems you have the gain set to high - that gives you the hiss due to the signal to noise ratio being compressed and clipping LEDs blinking. Clipping is the fastest way to blow your speakers.
I've had the same set-up for a few years now. I forget which Fosgate amp I have, it's a discontinued model. But it's a 4-ch amp running to a set of 4 mid/highs...
The problem I experienced yesterday was @ a car show. I usually run the system full blast with no problem. On a hot day @ an outdoor show I can usually run the system for about 2 hrs before the sub amp overheats and shuts down.
Yesterday's show was indoors and my mid/high amp started clipping after about 20mins of playtime. I did nothing out of the ordinary. I played it at a decent level without distortion and the cooling fans were on. The amp was no where near over heating either.
What exactly happened was : the amp would start clipping, I would lower the volume, then the mids/highs would turn back on after a few seconds.
The only upgrade I've done since then was a Yellow Top battery. Anyone have any suggestions as to what would be causing this?

One more minor detail I forgot to mention. At the same time I installed the Optima, I also reconfigured my HU equalization settings. I've enable the front stage enhancer, which allows separate attenuation settings for the front stage as well as gain settings. I have the treble portion of this set at 10khz cut-off, I believe
It shouldn't matter anyway since my mid/high amp has built in x-overs which I've had set previous to installing the Optima battery.
Talk to me Paul, what's going on with my system?
