Default what is this?

i bought my 2003 touring Z used. it has the stock bose radio, and the stock screen in the nav cubby.

it has an aftermarket dvd player (mounted behind passanger seat) that is hooked up to the oem screen and plays through the oem stereo. the audio of dvd comes from a station on the AM channel.

i took apart the console area and this is what i saw. what are these wires and what do they do? there is to small black boxes connected to them, and a FM modulator or something. what is this?

what the hell is this audiovox thing?

do you think i will be able to take out the dvd player and hook up a ps2, or ipod with what i already have?

and why does my screen constantly stay on when the car is on, even when the screen is not in use?

thanks for the help

It is a FM Modulator. It was used to feed the sound of the DVD Player into the factory radio.

Back when I first got my Z, I had an external DVD Alpine player installed in the cubby behind the passenger seat (the flip down area), and for me, i have 2 switches located right by my right knee on the driver side. The 2 switches are for : 1) switching the OEM screen from NAV to DVD player and 2) switching the OEM audio to DVD audio. The screen stays on either the alpine screen or black screen when the switch is flipped to DVD. That is probably why your screen is showing that. Look around for the switch, or just follow the wires and find the switch. Should solve the problem. I believe the Audiovox box is an RGB converter to get the DVD player to play. Either that or its the FM modulator to hook up an auxiliary input.

Oh yeah, btw, the only way I can get my NAV screen to turn off when the car is on like you asked, is to shut the door. Otherwise, there is no way to turn the screen off cause the NAV is always on.
