Upgrading to door pods
Well I finished the project and thought I would post pics to share with everyone. I have to say I was a little worried that I wouldn't get huge returns from this upgrade since I had already replaced the factory speakers with Phoenix gold 6.5's. All I can say is wow, the difference is unbelievable! This really makes a huge difference and I really have TRUE front stage now. Now the pics:
Removed door panel

Another shot of the Phoenix Gold's already in the door

While the door panel is off, it's a perfect time to add sound deadening.. Dynamat is way to overpriced as I picked up 60 sq ft of E-Dead from elemental designs for about $70.00

If you have never applied sound deadening before, it really is simple. Start with a sheet cut to the length you want to cover, apply at the top and dont remove the backing until your ready to apply, cutting out the holes as needed so they can be easily accessed later.

I ordered unfinished fiberglass door pods from wickedcas.com. Had I known what was involved with applying vinyl I would ave ordered finished pods, but I'm trying to work on a budget to squeeze this project past the wife. I opted to have them painted the same color as the car. Here are some shots of the pods prior to mounting:

And the finished (almost) product:

I used CDT Audio 6.5 components. They sound incredible and the tweets are silky smooth, not too harsh, just right. If anyone has any questions feel free to shoot me a PM

So the pods just attach to the plastic door skins?
They have to have large screws running into the door's metal interior skin. All that weight just hanging off the tiny plastic pegs would turn the door skin into a rattle trap. That and the 6.5" woofer would have to have enough energy to cause the light weight plastic skin to vibrate with the bass notes.
There has to be screws not visible right?

I have some other pics on another memmory card of the backside of the pods and how they attach to the door panel. The section of the door panel you attach the pods to is actually a very sturdy hard plastic. Theres about a one inch lip of fiberglass that you use to bolt the pods onto the door. It's very imortant to use nuts and washers w/lockwashers. You dont want to use a self tapper or regular screw to drill into the fiberglass, as it will eventualy break off.
I left that memmory card at work but I'll post the pictures. If not I'll pull the panel off again to snap some shots. You do have to drill your door panel. If I sell the car the pods go with, minus those CDT's though
