Default HELP PLEASEEEEEE with LOC and Stock HU

OK all I have the stock non bose HU and I have 2 LOC installed. I have a 2006 Z and I installed 2 amps one to the front channels L and R using a LOC and one to the rear channels L and R using a LOC. OK.........so changed out eh front stage with new componets and installed and 10" sub in Z enclousure and both front stage new componets are amped of the front channels using the LOC and the SUB is ran to another amp using the rear channels using the LOC.........I followed the instructions for the wire colors that are here on this page and something is wrong as it's like I have a center stage. I have sound that comes out of both left and right at the same time no matter what side you balance to. so when you balance to one side or the other the sound is better, but thats not right. What is the crap did I do wrong. I know that it must be something to do with the LOC the way they are wired to the factory HU. Can someone please help me get this right..........Is the wiring different if I have a non bose? Is it different for the 06 model? Please help as I am very down about all the time I spent over the last 2 weekends and the finished product came out wrong. I have done this stuff for many years and never came accross this for my self. It's like I have the + of one speaker and the - of another. It's all messed up.....

Thanks in advance...........sorry so long

When I was wiring my Z (06, non-bose), I found the wires to be NOTHING like any of the guides listed on here. Mainly, the problem was with the rear speaker wires. They did not match any of the colors listed in the guides. I forget which colors were which, but I tested them, and they worked just fine. I think what I ended up doing was looking at the wires going into the stock speaker, and then looking at the hookups on my sub, and I was able to determine (guess) which was positive and which was negative based on the location of the wire terminal.

So, let me get this straight, does your setup look like the following:

FR +/- -> front LOC via existing speaker wires from HU
FL +/- -> front LOC via existing speaker wires from HU

RR +/- -> rear LOC via existing speaker wires from HU
RL +/- -> rear LOC via existing speaker wires from HU

front LOC -> front amp via RCA
rear LOC -> rear amp via RCA

front amp -> front components
rear amp -> sub in zenclosure (nice enclosure btw)

Is this correct?

IF the music gets better when you pot to one side or the other then you've got a phase problem. That means you've got to swap one set of wires (+) to (-) as they're currently wired backwards.

There's a dead nutz simple way to check your speaker phases. Get a 9V battery and connect it to the speaker wires. When you get (+) to (+) the speaker will pop forward when you tap the battery to the wires. If you've got them backwards with the (+) to the (-) the speaker will pull inwards as you connect the battery. Get out a flashlight and watch the speakers carefully. The 9V battery will put out about 1-2 watts worth of power to your speakers which shouldn't be a problem but if you leave it connected up for a while that battery is going to get hot.

It is also possible that you've got the wires crossed between pairs. You really need a test CD where the guy goes right - right - right, left - left - left ...

What I have is one LOC for the front and one LOC for the rear both hook up to the back of the stock HU spliced in to the stock harness using the wire color code on this page. I did use the souind test CD that has the left, left, left and right, right , right. and what I have is the is no matter what side I balance to it comes out of both. when it's in the center it sounds like th music is in a tunnel. I did try the swithing the + and -, but made no difference. SO I think it's in the LOC the way they are wired up it's like I have the + of one speaker and the - of the other. I am at a loss and about ready to rip the whole thing out and start over again, but i know that all the wiring is good for the amps and subs and components. So I think it may be jsut time to rip the dash back out and try to figure it out but i am at a loss as to how to find out which is which. for LF-RF and RR and LR to get the color wires needed for each on the non bose system. I am running one amp for the sub and one amp for the front components and leavign the rears running off the deck rear channel like factory.

Thanks guys for all the help............

The test CD is telling you that you've got the left and right speaker wires crossed and you're getting mono.

Here's the color codes from the '03 manual.

Left Front + L/R
Left Front - B/W

Right Front + Y/R
Right Front - R/W

Left Rear + LG
Left Rear - B/Y

Right Rear + G/W
Right Rear - G

B = Black
W = White
R = Red
G = Green
L = Blue
Y = Yellow
LG = Light Green
BR = Brown
OR = Orange
P = Pink
PU = Purple (Magenta)
GY = Gray
SB = Sky Blue (Cyan)
CH = Dark Brown (Chocolate)
DG = Dark Green

PS: You're not color blind are you?

Paul, when I was doing my install, those colors were not correct for mine. I dont know if they changed anything for 06, but they didnt match up for the rear speakers. Oh, and I'm not colorblind either

LOLOLOL.....naw I am not color blind.........hehehehe.......

Crossed how though........Thats what I found is the colors must not be right as I folowed them to the letter..............but still got this outcome..........

I have looked in my o6 manual that came with the car, but no go as I can't find anything to do with it nor give colors or anything.

I don't know I am at a loss as I will have to pull the dash and HU again and pull the 2 LOC's off and start again.........other way I thought about was to run wire from the line from each door and each rear speaker to get it right, but then I would have to guess which one was positive and negative.........again at a loss..........this sucks........I got my hopes up for a big let down............

Keep giving me all the help I can get......many thanks to all

We had a guy find out he was color blind after crossing his speaker wires a couple of months ago.

Looks like they've changed the speaker wire colors for whatever reason for the '06 then.

Here's the chart I used to by-pass the Bose amplifier. Let's see if it matches the manual. Ah - I see that the colors match the line level outputs of the Bose head end.

And a picture of my work.

I double checked the '03 manual and my color code above matches the base (non-Bose) wiring.

what do you mean matches the 06 non bose? Does that mean coming out of the HU harness. I followed the color chart of the how to section of this area ............thats what I followed that to the letter and all the colors were there and thats why I did not even think twice about it as the colors were all there. I don;t know what yesr that color chart was from that I followed, but like I said they were all there. I just can't figure out how the crap I crossed them somehow, but we all know I did.

The only other thing I was thinking was to rip out the LOC's and just drop the front amp all together and just run them off the deck itself like the rears are and then movve one LOC and wire it fron the back speakers alone to run the sub and just go down to the sub amp. I just hate to do that when I know I will change the HU next year.........I would have done it now, but went to VEGAS and well Nuff said on that oen

But I hate to do that after all this work.........if I could have gotten the 2 wire harnesses to not have to splice in the factory harness I bet I would not be having this problem. I could only fine one for if you put in a aftermarket HU and another one for going to the factory HU right into the unit....I know they sell them too., That would have been the perfect deal. But no go........If I can get both those harness local like from Best Buy or something......Then maybe i can get it............I wish you all were close as I know you all would lend a hand even more in person. Thanks again for all the help..........I am lost..........I know we will get it with you all helping me though........I want this thing done for the weekend.,............

easier way, go out and buy a wire adapter harness, say a metra one, and then line up the wires iwth the color coded wires on the adapter harness..then you would know exactly which wire is whcih

The text chart is from the '03 manual and matches the picture chart and color photo from my '05 Bose. The color code of the base model in the '03 manual matches my '05 Bose line level outputs - that's a sort of confirmation of the manual.

I've got a couple of payments left on my '05 so I can't buy an '06 and start taking it apart for awhile. Someone with an '06 might post their colors but I really doubt that they were changed and that you've just got something crossed.

OK,
so I went and got the Metra Harness for both directions and made a full harness and put the LOC's and WALA it works great...........OK so now the problem is the dimmer does not work so when you turn the lights on and all the letters are supossed to light up, they don't. What do I do not and how do I find that wire to make that work. I tried all the ones on the harness, but no go. Can anyone get me in the direction so I can make that little thing work? I was even trying to get the lights to just come on and stay on all the time on the deck, but could not find which wire it would have been. So I have none of the lighted letter for the whole radi light up anymore. THe LCD is fine, but nothing else comes on and the LCD does not get dimmer light it is supossed to do. Thats the only issue.

Thanks guys again as always.........
