Pioneer 880, OZ Audio Matrix 180 components, Soundsplinter 10" sub, Z enclosures understrut box. That's probably $800 or so with wires. Then you'd just need to find a good amp or two. Might put you a little over. You can find good two channels and good mono amps for around $200.
I have the 880 in my car, OZ speakers in my wife's car and soundsplinter in my car. All of those components are awesome, especially for the price.

#1 question

What kind of music do you listen to and how much space in the trunk are you willing to give up?

Pioneer 770 - 200
Hifonics ZXi8006 - 250
Infinity Perfect 6.1 - 200
Adire Shiva 12" - 150

Get a box made for ~60 and some misc RCAs etc put you at ~$1000 or so.

It'll put 80% of the cars you find to shame on any rap/reggeaton/hip hop music you like ... plus itll sound good on most any other music too.

Yep, yep ... more power, more headroom .. always good for that kind of music.

Well ... last I got from Dan, the Brahmas were on the boat and the rest is soon to follow.

Never got to hear Kodas .. but I got to spend some time with some one-off Extremis designs of Dan w/ some nice tweeters that were superb.

I have a Stryke AV12 that is actually better than the old Shiva (output wise) .... . if anyone is interested.

I tried Elemental Design based on Bing's recommendation and I am very pleased with their amps. I am undecided on their subs, I am not sure if it's my enclosure that sucks or the sub, I am leaning towards the enclosure. I have really clean and tight bass for fill in, but not at all for pounding bass or really deep tones.

For components, MB Quart PCE 216, Focal 165v2, or Rainbow SLC...whichever sounds best to you for the better price. You should be able to find them online for around $250 or less. Image Dynamics IDQ12 v.2 ($170) for the subs should be enough in a Z and requires only around 400 watts. Alpine M545 goes for about $350 online and can push 125 watts per channel at 4 ohms to the front two speakers, and bridging the rear channels will push out 500 watts at 4 ohms. A cheap $200 Pioneer or Alpine head unit should be good enough, and you will need about $120 for wiring and a box. Its a little over a grand, but it should sound good.

I would go for the Rainbow SLC way before getting Infinity. I've never been impressed with Infinity but Rainbow makes some awesome speakers. They're about $260 per set

I have elemental designs nine.2 powering a set of their 6500 component speakers. sounds very crisp and clear with good midbass. i also have another nine.2 powering an image dynamics subwoofer mounted in a zenclosure under strut box. all in all i spent about 1200 incuding the HU and all the wiring and new rear speakers running off the HU (installed everything myself).

sounds awesome.

jvc kd6200- plays dvds-$250
farrenheit screen-$130( some where around 90 if u buy from this forum)
infinity basslink-$150......$200 tops
4 speakers of your choice-150-400$
miccelaneous crap-75$

thats anywhere from $755- $1000

thats well below 1k and it sounds pretty good.....not intense, i didnt switch out my rear speakers.... but i still had 350 dollars left.....and that helped my exhaust fund.

Let me give this a try
Alpine CDA9856 - 199
Focal 165A1 Components- 269.99
JL Audio 10W1- 119.99
Wiring and Parts- 75-100
JL Audio A4300- 299.99
Basic Square Box- 25-100 depending on prefab or custom built

That is going to be a little bit over 1k I beleive but that is all retail pricing. If you go to a shop and you tell them what youa re looking for and they are dealers for that product make sure they give you a deal and you can get that system for 850 to 900ish I am sure.

That is mostly a SQ system. In a Z those focals are going to deleiver very nice midrange with good clarity and good dynamic range. The sub is going to give you just enough thump to SOUND GOOD. It is not goign to knock your head off but you will deliver the low bass the system lacks and have enough power to shake your mirrors.

The benefit of this system is your going to actually have a amplfier running the front speakers isntead of CD power. That means you will be going from 15 distorted cheap watts of power to 65 clean watts of power perside. The result is night and day and you will be much happier then running them off the cd player. You will find yourself being unsatisifed at decent to loud volumes with the amount of distortion when using the deck power.
