Default Question to youaudio shops who do custom enclosures.

Is there enough room in the trunk (taking the entire area from the strutbar back and spare tire well) to add a 13 W7 and 2 10w7's on the sides? I'm trying to draw up some plans to get a custom box made by having a 13w7 with 2 10's on the sides angled in or facing the front. Last car I had with a trunk I made a large sub facing in toward the cab, and 2 smaller subs facing each other in an angle in the trunk. I would run the 2 smaller subs all the time when cruising or going to work and flip the big sub in the middle for shows/sound comps or just flat out showing off . Now since I can't build custom systems alone anymore because of my back I have to rely on a shop to do this for me and the guys who help me with my other projects after my accident have never done any work on a Z, so my conclusion on wheither this is possible or not is gonna have to come from those of you who do deal with Z's and custom enclosures.

its kinda pointless to do different size subs, you may get osme cancellation issues...

also, with those three subs you are looking at about 4.5 cubfeet of air space...

is it possible ? yes, but the enclsoure would pretty much take up all the space back there... if someone asked me to build such a box, it would be 90 percent fiberglass and run about 2k lol

i would suggest using same size subs and perhaps something with small enclosure requirements...

Yea mixing sub sizes is no good bro. Go with the one 13W7 or 2 10W7/12W7

If you're just using 2 10s for cruising then buy an amp with a remote gain control and just turn things down on the 13. I swear anybody that doesn't have some type of remote gain or level control has no idea what they are missing. I couldn't imagine not having them in my cars.

woh! am i the only one who thinks one 10" in the boot is enough

my type x 10 is enough to rattle many a plastic interior part at mid level volumes, let alone adding more

Bing I do not even think there is enough room using glass. I actually think you would have to cut the stut bar out of the car and take from the back seats all the way back.

The 2 different sized subs worked great in the last car I did it in and gave certain area's better bass tones. I'm glad I asked before having something like this built beforehand. 3 10 W7's may work fine in the small area the Z offers. When I go bass I go big or not at all, as for teh box costing 2 grand, thats not an issue. I'v decided to wait for the 07 Z's to come out so I can put more money aside for my sound system and do something crazy this time around.

just my opinion, but a good subwoofer should be able to perform its duties of reproducing at the highest 80hz and downward with smoothness, impact, authority and good frequency response...

but again, car audio is all due to personal taste, if you enjoy having differen size subs, then more power to you though it hink even more important than have subbass (whcih by all means is easy to get in a hatch like the Z), is a strong midbass to anchor the bassnotes upfront...(harder to get in the Z)

In my experience it is never a good idea to rund different size subs at the same time.

If you were to have two seperated enclosures for the 2x10 and the single 13 then you can get away with it however you may find it will be necessary for you to have them on a switch so at no time both enclosures are on at the same time to eliminate phase issues and cancellation issues.

I would highly recommend in your case just run 3x10" w7 and get yourself a nice amp with a lot of control over those subs. You will eventualy need an upgrade of some sort for your alternator.

This is a picture of a guy running 2 12W6's in a glass box and still having a strut bar. Hella nice. Wish I woulda had the 2000 to get it all.

You might want to browse over to http://www.icixsound.com/. It's a forum for audio enthusiasts. The members there do some really wicked fiberglass installs. Elemental Designs sponsors the site, but I've never heard any of their subs or amps. I do use their E-Dead sound deadener in my Z. Much cheaper than dynamat

Im sure if you post up on the forum someone could help you out, seems they actually enjoy making really sic FG enclosures...
(too much mess for me + not enough room in the garage)

Im think your right, I think 3 10W7's will do just fine. I don't want to ruin the car either so if i want to do a crazy install I better leave that to another car. have you fit 3 10W7's under the strut before?

yea, thats not done too appealing. the ports should be hidden and the subs should atleast be angled.

We did fit 3x10W7 under the strut bar however it was not enough room. The box will have to come out toward the front of the car a little more. But it was VERY VERY VERY VERY LOUD. Surprizingly clean and tight at thesame time. We ended up doing 2X10w7 and downsized the enclosure. Our under strut fiberglass enclosure can be modified to house the 3X10W7 Subs.

Let me know and I can get you a Quote for everything. PM me please for pricing.
