Default remote start on 6MT help

Hello,

i have a viper alarm that has the remote start capability. i know it can be unsafe to install remote start on a manual...but i never put the car in gear. i tried to install the key bypass module but it still will not remote start. i did a search and read that people needed to bypass the clutch? i could not find how to do this. could someone help me or find a link that would show how to do this? thanks in advance.

i got this to work on my Z but i had it profesionaly installed by an electronics shop here. They bypassed the clutch but im not sure how. It works but i rarley use it because im always worried i may have left it in gear without thinking about it. anyways i would just go ask a local viper dealer and they should be able to point you in the right direction.

You are better of getting a Compustar where it is designed to work with a Manual transmision and it has safe guards built in.

No matter how many times you say you never leave it in gear one day you might. I am sure I don't have to tell you the danger that can cause.

Noobie question:

If I *always* leave the car in gear (don't want to leave it parked in neutral even with e-brake), there's no point for me to even think about getting remote start, correct?

maybe it's just because my Z is so new, but i've sometimes forgotten i still had the brake on and started trying to go, i can't even budge an inch, so i'm not sure how these people that leave their car in gear, that their car runs away, if the car's in gear, brake is on, you start it, there's nothing pushing in the clutch, the car *should* die.. shouldn't it? i've started my Z forgetting it was in gear, and took foot off clutch... *jerk* *stall*.. so maybe i'm just not understanding how these cars are running off, heh

I'm not sure how far they run off to, but there have been a couple instances where I started the car in gear and took my foot off the clutch, forgetting it was in 1st gear. The car jerked forward (felt like a couple feet at least) and died, even with the e-brake on.

If you are installing a remote start on a 6MT make sure you tap the OEM PNP wire. This wire outputs a (-) signal ONLY when the car in in N and will interface directly with the Viper's Neutral safety switch input.

Keep in mind that this is a mechanical switch, and so it is prone to failure (although failure is very unlikely). This being known, the switch should be checked at least monthly for proper operation.

That being said, you will need to make the car 'think' the clutch is pushed in before the remote start will work. If you think this is your problem, then sit in the driver seat, manually push the clutch in, and then try and remote start the car. If this is your problem then the car should start. I'm thinking you'll need a relay that can be triggered off of your 'starter' output so the relay ONLY bypasses the clutch when you remote start the car. If you don't have access to the coil of the remote starter starter relay then you'll need some isolation to control the clutch bypass.

Good luck!

thanks for the info...the pnp wire i will definitely tap into...but as i hook up the remote start i noticed that it needed a 2nd starter wire. directech sheet says its green/white...but i for the life of me cannot find a green/white wire at the ignition harness. also...do i need a tach wire?

I always hook the tach wire up. You can find a tach signal at the ECU when you tap the PNP wire. Hit up one of the fuel injector wires.

There should be a 2nd starter wire buried in there, you may want to probe some of the other wires and see if you can find one that reads like a 2nd starter.

I have an 03 Z Enthuzed. Automatic.. I want to get an alarm with the remote start but the problem is that I don't want to bypass the key chip.. See after you bypass that. The Chip in your key is completely useless. Thus making it easier to hot wire and steel. Cuz admit it. Your pager alarm with the 1 mile radius goes off and you're 1/2 mile away. Do you really think You'll make it there in time to stop the theves from steeling your car..... I don't think so....
So I ask you guys if you know of any module that will let me have a remote start and bypass the chip?
