Default Hand free cellular phone kit question

I had a handfree set installed for my Motorola v60 last week. I bought the set at AT&T. It is the Motorola hands free made for the v60. Because AT&T doesn't install, I had a local audio video retailer install it for me along with my tint. Now, I am having trouble with it. For some reason, the reception cuts in and out and there is a really bad and loud static sound that completely drowns out my voice on the other end, but . . . it only happens when the car is moving. When I am sitting still, it sounds pretty good and I get good reception from the car also. The a/v retailer sold me and installed the antennae for the phone. I am taking it back to them on Tuesday to have them check the connections, and they say that is all they can do since they didn't sell me the phone. My feeling is that there is something wrong with the antennae connection, which is something they sold me. Obviously, AT&T isn't going to pay to have the whole thing ripped out and a new one installed if it is faulty. Does anyone have enough experience with these to diagnose this problem? I am trying to get some ideas before I take it back. Thanks.

Default Your Problem

Im no expert on car phone setups but, I am an expert installer as far as car audio goes. Sounds like your voice or rca cables or whatever they use are to close to the power wire. Im sure you have heard custom stereo setups where when you rev the engine you get a whine in the speakers. Sounds like the same thing to me. Just a thought though..let me know. I also have a V60 and am looking for a kit. How is it working out?

Yeah, that sounds plausible. The only thing is, once I made a call to my work voice mail from my driveway while revving the engine. I could hear the engine revving in the background but it didn't create the "throbbing static" that it does when I am moving. I could still hear my voice over the static. Hopefully, they will get it fixed because otherwise it works great (automatically turns off the radio when the phone is in use and automatically turns it back on; it also automatically answers after two rings so I don't have to fumble with the phone in mid-shift)

I'm not familiar with these. How exactly does this work? Do you hear the caller through your car speakers and talk to them through a speaker phone type set up? Is it compatible with any cell phone for future upgrades?

This particular set is not compatible with other phones. It is specifically made for this phone. The good part about that is that it hooks up more easily (just slides in without having to hook up other cords) and that you get more features, like auto answer, auto hang up, auto charge, auto charge shut off (which you can set for the amount of time after you turn off the car that you want the phone to stay one). If you want one compatible with lots of different phones, your options are limited to a lot lower quality sets that don't sound as good or pick up from the mic as good. I had one of those kind in my previous car, and it worked okay, but not nearly as good as this one now does. I couldn't use it at all in the Z because it plugs into the cigarette lighter and, on the Z, the lighter is behind you (not convenient at all). They hooked up this set right between they steering wheel guages and the center console (just below the vent in that area). It is a perfect location. The mic is wired through the roof cover and is attached around the eyeglass holder. It has an independent speaker which is mounted under the steering column (you can't see it without putting your head in the floor board). It also has a brain module that is mounted someplace I don't know. Then, it has a tiny antenna that is mounted to the rear glass on the left side of the upper brake light.

I got it back from the shop yesterday and the problem is completely fixed. It was a faulty microphone and a problem with the connection to the antenna. Apparently it has some sort of slip in connection and the shop installed a screw-in connection to make sure it held strong through all of my wild driving. Anyway, I am a lot safer on the road now that I'm not trying to find, dial, open, talk on or hang up my cell phone while shifting gears, using the clutch, brake and accelerator all at the same time.

Sounds like a nice setup. I'd definitely like to have something like that, but I switch cell phones frequently. Driving and talking has become much more of a burden with the Z. Much harder to concentrate. Guess I could just go with a regular headset, but your set up sounds much better.

I have the Motorola T720 and would like to install that same hands free kit in my 350Z. Does anyone have any expierence with this device? Here is the link:

Can you bypass the speaker it comes with and hook it up to your stereo somehow? It would be great if you could recieve an incoming phone call by hitting AUX on you stereo, then answer the call and be able to hear the person from you own speakers. If not, I guess using the speaker it comes with will work ( I think it can use cell phone mute to mute your stereo when a call is made or recieved, that would be cool)

Oh, by the way I think this kit works with most Motorola cell phones, and if you get a new phone you can switch phones by buying the specific adapter for your particular phone. Did that make sense?
