+1 ON Passport 8500 X50 (I've used both within the last two months) the X50 (mine) and V1 (dbmx's).

Yeah. If you buy the detectors off EBay it doesn't come with the 3 yr factory warranty. Some of the sellers offer warranties, but I wouldn't take those for much. Still save a ton of money.

I've been using the RX65 for a few weeks now. It almost never goes off. It did catch a laser once...and that was at least 1-2 miles away.

I think D.C. and VA are the only places where detectors are illegal. You can use them everywhere else, so FL is fine.

they are legal, but if you DO end up getting pulled over and the cop sees it you have little chance of getting out of the ticket

Detectors only work with lazy cops. Smart cops are the ones who zap a speeder they *know* are going to pull over. Depends on the area you live too. Smart cops have good tactics..I really have no use for my V1; just hang's there and makes me look at worthless beeps all day.

same here, especially since im in the bay area. My V1 helps me find out where the closest Safeway is at.

I don't speed around on the side streets where there are far too many kids on bikes or playing because their fathers own too many shotguns. At least I would kill someone speeding down my street that hit my one of my kin ... it's only fair.

In the city I don't bother to race between the stop lights as they're timed meaning if you do the speed limit they reward you with a green light and better gas mileage.

However the highways where the speed limits are 55 or 65 ... and taffic does 75 or 80 are where my pair of V1's (each Nissan) come in handy.

Nothing by RMR or Rocky Mountain Radar will jam laser or radar and their radar detection sucks.

Here are some videos of all RMR products not jamming anything:

Damn- never saw all of that stuff... good finds.

Anyway, here's my set up. I hate wires but didn't feel like dishing out so much for an Escort. It gets the job done- no tickets in 3 years (knock on wood) with spirited driving every day.

If I could do it all over again, I would just get an effective jammer and conceal it with a kill switch.

Here's the annual test site of radar detectors also: Has the latest test results of the different detectors against each other: Here's some that were used in the tests: Bel RX 65, Bel STI Driver, Bel Vector 995, Cobra 9730, Cobra 9430,
Escort 8500, Valentine One, Whistler 325, Whistler 560, Whistler Fuzion.
This test is done annually. Gives you an ideal of what each one can do in different situations and the overall best performance. www.speedzones.com Check it out. Also it tells you which two stated that are illegal to use them and other interests per the detecters as to VG2 etc.

sorry to dig this up from a couple months ago, but i had to comment on the frequent 8500 vs. V1 debate. if anyone is bouncing between the two, here's a little info that no one has mentioned.

many people swear by the v1 because of the arrows...knowing which direction the signal is coming from. this is definitely nice, but i went with the 8500 because it COMPLETELY separates each signal. you know exactly how many signals there are, in what band, and what the strength of each is.

i can tell there's a safeway with X band with full signal going crazy at the same time a cop with both Ka radars (front and back) active. one signal is strong and the other weak. the weak signal increases and when he goes by, the other signal starts dropping. that's as good as any arrows

V1 has the bogey counter and seperates which signal goes with which arrow through flashing patters and signal strength.
