Double din head unit thread...
Interesting to see how Sony continues with the MD format. As one of the very early adopters, I never really got into it and I've pretty much let my MD equipment sit and gather dust for the past few years. Back when it was fairly new, you couldn't find any pre-recorded MDs and recorders were fairly expensive. Mine was somewhere around $500. Since it cost so much, I didn't really want to use it as my portable unit so it never left my desk much. Now, with CD-R and more importantly MP3 giving true skip free capability, I think MD is pretty much dead.
Strange that in Asia, it's still very much the rage.
Pioneer makes a stereo line titled something like "Carozerria" which has a bunch of nice double DIN units.

Japanese are much more prone to adopt new standards than the rest of the world, well Asians in general. Magneto optical storage has been big and continues to be big overseas, but we always are to slow to adopt over here so it dies off. MD was out long before it was over here, and is still very big, along with other MO formats.

Peep out hyper jack if you get a chance.

I picked up the MZ-N1 last year and wish I would have waited a month or two for the new MZ-N10
