I've seen a lot of people use the stock location and the under-the-strut bar boxes, but none under the seat. I searched, but no luck.
So anyone do this? I'm not looking to impress anyone except myself while driving the car, so I'm not looking for anything with a lot of thump- just to do my music justice.
Another idea was to get a pair of those self-powered subs that Subaru sells.

you could probably fit some wimpy 8's under there, or an SWS series woofer from Earthquake. But after the price of the boxes to be custom made to fit, and install. Youd probably be better just buying an understrut with 10's and calling it a day. Or if you dont care about hatch space. I have a huge 2.5ft^3 box sitting in my hatch for my 12" L7. It knocks my rearview off at least twice a week.
Here is the SWS series woofer

Any idea where I can buy them?

This might work.. I'll have to see if I can find some reviews. $240 is a bit high, but it includes the enclosure, woofer, crossover and amp.

You'll have trouble finding even 3" of height under the seats without restricting seat movement.
What you can fit under the seats won't be much better than just using rear 6.5's crossed over LPF at 120hz as subs. IMO
