Default Got my wires crossed...

Here is my problem, and hopefully someone can offer some insight...

I had a new audio system installed in my Z recently which comprised a new head unit, new front speakers w/ separate tweeters, new rear speakers, subwoofer, and amp. The 5-channel amp powers the fronts, rears and subwoofer. My problem is that when I use the Fade (front/rear) function in the head unit, the sound does not simply fade front to rear. Instead when I fade to the Front, the sound goes to my front drivers side and rear passenger side. Similarly when I fade to the Rear, the sound goes to the front passenger side and rear driver side. So the only way I can get even sound is to leave it right in the middle.

You might have guessed by the fact that I had this system installed by someone else that I am no expert on car audio; however, I would like to fix this problem myself. So before I go tearing apart the car to access the head unit and/or amp, can anyone offer suggestions as to where the wires might be incorrectly connected to cause this type of problem? Is this something that could possibly be caused be a defective head unit? All of its other features seem to work fine.

Please help!

it sounds like the wires got crossed coming out of the amp. if you have access to the amp, switch one of the sets connected to the rear outputs to the right front output (since that's the one that is not working up front). then figure out by trial and error which side is which for the rear for the remaining two sets that aren't connected to the front at this point, since i'm going to assume your wires aren't marked. and that's another thing, once you figure it out, you may want to mark them, just in case.

sry110 has it right. Just unplug the RCA cables from the amplifiers and then adjust the volume to front right and plug the RCA cables in until the front right speaker plays music ... continue the process until you've got it done.
