new install, got a problem
So I just finished installing all the following stuff in my 04 coupe:
AVIC-Z1 [w/ bluetooth, XM NavTraffic, iPod, etc]
JL 500/1 mono amp
JL 10W7 sub in Zenclosures box
JL 300/2 amp
JL XR650-CSi components for front, no rears
Got everything installed and it all looks/sounds great, cept that I haven't
put any sound deadening in yet, so there are some rattles and midbass is
a little wonky. That will be a project for later.
I have two problems, however, now that it's all back together:
1) The button on the drivers side door to lock/unlock the doors from the
inside doesn't work. The keyless remote works fine.
2) The passenger side window won't open or close. The drivers side is OK.
The motor doesn't give any indication that it is even trying, so I expect
it's a problem with the switch.
I've checked and rechecked all the wiring and can't find anything wrong,
but hopefully it's just something stupid. The problem still exists with the
woofers taken out so I'm sure it's not mechanical interference.
Given that the button for the interior doors and the button to lock the
passenger side window in place are right next to each other, my best
guess is that those are disconnected or shorted open or something,
but I haven't been able to find anything to substantiate that.
I did have to dremel out part of the connectors for the harnesses going into
the doors to make room for the front speaker wires, but I quadruple checked
that for damage to existing wiring before i put it back together.
Anyone have any suggestions for things to check? My first time doing
an install so I'm in waaay over my head. I'm just about to the point
where I'm going to have to get systematic and sit down with a wiring
diagram and check voltages at the harnesses, which is going to be a PITA.
Oh, and yes, the button to lock the passenger side window IS in the
"off" position.
Thanks!

this is almost a case of bent pins ont he door connector, you said you dremel out hte plugs, you ahve to check to make sure on both the male and female side that no plugs and pins are broken.
but i am about 90 percent usre its a case of bent plugs, hopefully ou can straighten it, cause if you cant, then you hvae to go through and get new plugs and reqire each one...

Same here
It seen to be a common thing, Maybe we should add a note in the "How to".
anyway, the lock/unlock thing happend to me, it was the 2 white pieces that hold the metal wire tha open-close the lock. I re-took the door apart and check that they were in the right location and they weren't.
After that all was ok.

Thanks for the suggestions, it was indeed the door connectors. There weren't
any bent pins, but the connectors weren't closing all the way because the
speaker wire running through them was getting kinked and holding them apart
about 0.5cm. Apparently just because the lever on them turns over easily
doesn't mean they actually closed fully.
Anyway, I widened the holes a bit so the wires would move more freely and
that seems to have done the trick.
Next project will be finding/making some spacers so the windows don't
hit the woofers when they roll down Even using the original speakers as
a spacer, I still need another 1/4" or so of lift. Perhaps time to think about
some door pods or something, too.

a tip is to be pulling on the side ofhte wire in the interior while lining up and closing the connectors i have gotten it down to a system now where i can get wires run into both doors in under 15 mins lol...
