Sirius Satalite Antenna Mount Locations?
I know I've seen this discussed in the past but I can't seem to have much luck with search terms trying to find it... but I just ordered the Kenwood adapter for Sirius radio to add to my double-din Kenwood DDX 6.5" screen headunit. I wanted to know where most people mount hte antenna.
The obvious option is outside the car, but I don't wan that because it looks tacky and for theft reasons. I'm thinking somewhere on the strut tower but was wondering if I could see some photos! Also, where have most of you stashed your receiver box? Thanks.

I have XM and GPS antennas mounted under the strut bar plastic cover, one on
the left side and one on the right side as close to the middle as I could get
them. It's obviously totally stealth, but the reception has not been fantastic.
It works fine maybe 95% of the time, but cuts out a lot in the city and when
there's high hills or buildings around.
There's plenty of room in the cavity behind the drivers seat to put the
receiver, provided you aren't putting an aftermarket sub or something
in there.

Thanks for the reply.
I'm assuming what you mean is that you moved the silver/brushed portion above the strut bar where the Z emblem is and placed the items in that part and then put the cover back on? I have the factory BOSE sub still installed and running off my DDX but I'm sure I'll fine another location, I didn't realize how small the receiver box actually was. Thanks!

I have navi and sirius both between the windshield and instrument cluster. Sirius occasionally cuts out, but not enough to make me want to change it. Navi close to the window and sirius right behind it.

If you put the satellite antenna anywhere inside the car, you will have less then stellar results. The lack of terestrial based antenna's really doesnt help Sirius subscribers (they need all the reception they can get)The GPS is fine inside the car. I use an XM mini antenna and its really not noticable, but Ive seen some real monster sirius antenna's.
I was told by a crutchfield.com rep that "as long as it can see the sky" you'll be fine -- I guess I'll just have to play with it when I get the kit and see what works best.
When you install it on the outer, rear-windshield, do you just double-side tape the antenna unit and then run the wiring and tuck it into the seal up through to the top and bring it into the trunk through the top opening of hte hatch? Or how did you get the cable into the car? And then when in the car, did you run it along the headliner? I've never had to remove the headliner so if you can give some brief info I'd appreciate it! Thanks!
yes, I used a small piece of double sided tape and then ran the wire under the weather stripping and behind the panels to the floor and then to the deck from there.
I will get a pic for you tomorrow if you want.

Since I own a roadster I had limited options, but my installer had a clever yet an obvious place to install mine. Inside in the center of the dash at the very front of the window. Works great and unless you're looking down at the front window you don't see it and reception is great!

I'm wondering if the included Sirius antenna will be fine or if it's even worth spending $40 getting a "low-profile" antenna, so I'm curious to see how yours looks!
I have my GPS antenna under the plastic on the strut bar like a few others but the XM receiver is under the carpet right in front of the strut bar- so far it's been working surprisingly well.
Installed my Sirius antenna under the plastic strut bar cover. Reception is as good as a similar Sirius antenna on the roof of my Volvo wagon, but since the Z version is completely concealed, it looks much better.
