Default Sirius satellite aftermarket installation on '03 Bose sounds system?

Is that feasible without having to change the headunit? Can I install Sirius Satellite on my '03 Bose headunit without having to change anything? Thanks in advance for any input.

The factory headunit in the 03s did not accomodate satellite radio. Only 04 and above models do. Also it is not a simple plug and play thing since they both use different harnesses. I'm not aware of an adapter.

You can get a plug and play unit, but there is a matter of where to mount one in a Z. I would go for a new headunit that is Sat ready, you wont believe the difference getting rid of the stock head can make.

No doubt about that, but are you aware of any HUs that much the interior and fit the opening as perfectly as the OEM one?

If you insist on keeping that head unit, your only option is a plug and play unit. And there's not alot of dash space to mount one. You might be able to do a sirius visor unit without alot of hassle.

with a decent mounting kit all the single DIN headunits look really nice. If you want to maintain a factory look, get one with an amber display.

Thanks for all the useful information! Do you happen to know of any decent HUs with amber illumination?

And regarding the 1st option (keeping the stock HU), how much is the cost and where can I get the hardware from? TIA buddy!

After checking out some head units, I've noticed you have to move up in the product lines pretty far to get variable color displays, and most of the entry level units start around $100 and have blue displays. To get to the units that have variable colors you into a $200.00+ deck. Then add a Sat tuner for about $80-$90. A mounting kit for $16.00, wiring kit for $12. Then toss in an install for about $100.00 and your jamin.

OR

A sirius Visor unit, very cheap, very easy to install and very compact. $50.00 for the unit and its single line display makes it very easy to clip to your visor and run power, ant wire and I would recomend a hard wire tap into your existing factory antenna. Wireless transmission of sat signal to a headunit sux. Wired antenna adapters (can be had for $25-50) are the way to go if you dont have an auxport on tha back of an oem headunit. All in all three wires running up to the visor.

Both will give you sirius, the visor is cheaper, but if you have the funds I highly recomend replacing the headunit in favor of an aftermarket deck. It's easier to read and easier to control your sounds from one source, instead of two.

Check ou the offerings from Kenwood, Pioneer, Panasonic, and Alpine. All offer great choices for headunits that are sat ready and compatable with XM and sirius.

Thanks a ton man! I'll look into it, although I'll go with the 2nd option most likely (I'm not keeping the car for a long time so I don't wanna throw much $$ on it). I'll let you know how it goes.

How'd it go with the install? I am thinking of adding Sirius to a factory 05 with Bose. I don't know if the back of the unit has any plugins. Anyone know?
